Kristina envisions launching a program to assist families unable to afford their own homes, ensuring more parents and children experience the comfort of a place they can truly call home. She embodies innovation, compassion, and ambition, guided by the belief that the more you give to the world, the more you receive from the Universe. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I have a deep passion for design and art. Exploring creative expressions through various mediums is not only a personal interest but also a source of inspiration and joy in my life. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I have a strong background in the arts, having taken architectural drawing classes and studied under talented artists. Additionally, I developed a passion for ballet during my school years, where I embraced the discipline and grace of this beautiful art form. In what sports, if any, have you participated? Since my school days, I’ve embraced an active lifestyle. I played basketball and soccer, but now I focus on maintaining my fitness by regularly working out at the gym. Staying fit and healthy is important to me, and I enjoy the physical and mental benefits of staying active. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? The person who has had the most profound influence on my life is my grandfather. He imparted valuable skills to me and taught me the importance of perseverance and following my dreams even in challenging times. His encouragement to push through obstacles and strive for success has shaped my outlook on life. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of considering others and motivated me to inspire and support others in reaching their goals. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest personal accomplishment is fulfilling my childhood dream of moving to a bustling metropolis and achieving success as an immigrant. I am proud to have established and run my own company, which represents the realization of two significant dreams and goals that I have worked hard to achieve. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? At this moment, I can’t pinpoint one specific event as the most interesting or unique thing that has happened to me. Instead, I feel incredibly blessed by the journey of life, which has led me to encounter remarkable people along the way – friends, colleagues, and mentors – who have continuously surprised me with valuable lessons and experiences. Each interaction has shaped me in profound ways, contributing to the unique tapestry of my life. I cherish the unpredictability and richness of these encounters, which have added depth and meaning to my journey. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition is to establish multiple interior design studios across the country, collaborate with renowned architects, and implement programs to assist individuals who are unable to afford their own homes. I am taking confident steps toward my business goals, currently focusing on learning how to expand. In the near future, I plan to work on establishing assistance programs to help those in need. What would be your “dream job” in life? I believe I already have my dream job because it involves art, beauty, creativity, and love. I enjoy meeting new people and facing challenges with each project, which motivates me to strive for more. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born and raised in Pervomaysk city, Lugansk region, Ukraine. When I was 8 years old, my family and I moved to Kyiv, where I spent most of my childhood and built many cherished memories. Those days hold a special place in my heart – I had wonderful friends, developed my artistic talents, participated in sports, performed in school concerts, and even wrote scripts for various school productions. My childhood was filled with the opportunity to explore and express myself, as my parents always supported and motivated me to develop in various fields and find my own path in life and passion. One funny memory I have is from every summer when I visited my grandparents. Although I sometimes grumbled about it, I was put to work picking berries, weeding, and planting in their garden. To be honest, I’m not much of a gardener, but you can’t resist a Ukrainian grandma – if you know what i mean! I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but now I would love to travel back in time to experience it again and enjoy those homegrown berries. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. Probably I never had unusual jobs but my first job was as a personal assistant to the Director of the Retail Sales Department at Alfa Bank Ukraine. I’m grateful for this experience as it taught me essential skills in document management, financial analysis, organization, time management, and negotiation. My boss was very strict, which helped me develop a strong work ethic and attention to detail. List any volunteering you have done. One of the most meaningful volunteering experiences I had was at a hospital in Ukraine specializing in bone tuberculosis. I dedicated my time to supporting children affected by this illness, organizing entertaining and educational events to uplift their spirits and create memorable moments during their treatment. I would love to continue my volunteering efforts here in Canada, especially if I can engage in activities similar to those I undertook in Ukraine. Making a difference in the lives of children facing health challenges is a cause close to my heart and I am eager to contribute to the community and support those in need wherever I can. What is your most unusual talent? One of my most unusual talents lies in my ability to transform ordinary materials into stunning works of art and breathe new life into vintage furniture pieces. I have a knack for creating beauty from unexpected sources, proving that creativity knows no bounds. Whether it’s repurposing old furniture into stylish pieces or crafting unique decorations for themed parties, I thrive on turning ideas into tangible expressions of artistry. I cherish the opportunity to infuse creativity into everything I do, bringing joy and inspiration to those around me. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Barcelona may not be the most interesting place for everyone, but for me, it was truly unforgettable. I left my heart there – I was captivated by the people, the culture, and fell in love with the architecture, especially Gaudi’s creations. The spiritual experience of Montserrat left a lasting impression on me. The atmosphere of shopping at La Rambla’s bustling bazaar, enjoying magnificent paellas with seafood, sipping on huge sangrias, and watching flamenco shows in the evenings all added to the magic. I guess it’s clear that I have a deep appreciation for beautiful places and delicious food. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years, I envision having achieved all my career goals, including establishing the charity program I mentioned earlier. Another dream of mine is to open my own gallery where new artists can showcase their work. Additionally, I see myself surrounded by my loving husband and children, creating a happy and fulfilling family life. |

| Lorraine Peters Height: 5’6 Hometown: Rothesay, NB Languages: English Occupation: Entrepreneur “You fat bitch…” Those 3 words changed the trajectory of my life…not being a high school drop-out, not being a teenager in the big city of Toronto alone pursuing a modeling career and not even having an unplanned pregnancy! But despite the pain and humiliation those words brought, they also propelled me into a powerful, resilient, and successful woman! When you turn pain into purpose, you become unstoppable! After that incident I lost 35 pounds, became a personal trainer, authored the book, Curve Appeal, and threw my life into fitness and nutrition. Pageantry has played a part in my life since my first pageant at age 15, but modeling and motherhood, adding two more children, along with my personal training and wellness consulting business kept me busy. However, my passion for serving others, becoming an herbal practitioner and fitness profssional, only grew. I became a personal trainer for one of the wealthiest families in Canada, coached 3 women to the National Women’s Tackle Football team, and at the age of 42, entered and won my first bodybuilding competition. In between all of that I had a TV show, Friends with Manners, was a spokesmodel for a swimwear line, founded the only menopause cafe in Atlantic Canada, and had a small role in the Stephen King remake of Popsi! My love for the modeling and fashion industry and instilling confidence in women, propelled me at age 51 to purchase the only modeling agency in my city. This is where I have focused my energy the last several years bringing value into the lives of women, girls and newcomers to Canada and watching them grow in their confidence and believe in their strengths and talents. As I consider my life, in terms of legacy, when people think of me, I hope it’s the philanthropy and serving that shine the brightest, as my love for giving back and supporting organizations that grow and further the success of women will always be of utmost importance to me. Organizations such as, 100 Women Who Care, Girl Child and Tea for TaTa’s, founded by my granddaughter and I, will always be near to my heart! So while three words changed my life many years ago, now, wife, mother, grandmother, entrepreneur, author, fitness professional, herbalist, model, stylist, philanthropist, trailblazer, and the oldest Miss Universe Canada contestant, define my life!! What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? Oh my! I have an eclectic array of interests, so here we go. Fashion. I hold a certificate as a fashion stylist and Image Consultant and I sell a line of clothing called Cabi. Cabi helps me connect with women in a way that makes them feel beautiful and confident. Next would be pageants. I have competed in pageants since I was 15 years old and as you can see I have no plans to stop. Modeling is another passion that has come right alongside pageants. I have done more modeling in my 50’s than any other decade of my life. Also high on my list of things I love to do is gardening, most notably, making herbal remedies and home made medicines from the plants and flowers I grow in my garden. My Calendula ointment is famous List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Modeling Acting Yoga Instructor Fitness Instructor CSEP Certified Personal Trainer Therapeutic Touch Practitioner level 2Herbal Practitioner Iridology and I am a Certified International Etiquette Consultant, Certified Fashion Stylist and Certified Image Consultant. In what sports, if any, have you participated? My sport has always been Bodybuilding. I have exercised since I was 24, but I trained for and won my first Bodybuilding competition at age 42 after the birth of my third child. In addition to Bodybuilding I enjoy skating, swimming, hiking, snowshoeing and paddle boarding. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My best friend’s Mother had the most influence on my life. She was into all the things that I loved as a young girl and that my Mother was not interested in. Velma loved country music, make-up, fashion and going on drives just for fun. She was so fun to be with. What I loved most about Velma was something that I would not come to realize until I was grown. She was incredibly strong and resilient. In the 1970’s in small town N.B she divorced a violent husband and was left with 4 kids. She somehow managed to buy her estranged Husband’s family’s restaurant business and ran it successfully until she passed away in 2021. She never once bragged about being a Boss lady or complained about how hard life was with 4 kids. She has been the greatest example of grace under pressure that i’ve ever met. Thank you Velma. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? In my nearly 6 decades I have 3 proudest accomplishments. #1 along with my Husband Randy, I have raised 3 children who are successful, well adjusted adults who love hanging out with their parents #2 Winning a Bodybuilding competition at the age of 42 was a dream I had carried since my teenage years and I still reflect on it positively. #3 Authoring my book, Curve Appeal, was a two year process and still one of the most rewarding endeavors of my life, mostly because it has helped many people lose weight and be healthier. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? In 2013, then Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were visiting New Brunswick. My Daughters, best friend and I desperately wanted to meet Prince Charles. My oldest Daughter spend hours making fascinators out of oversized napkins to affix to their heads to hopefully catch the Prince’s attention. On the eve of the royal visit I had a vivid dream of exactly where the four of us needed to be standing to catch the attention of the Prince. I told the girls of my dream and we decided to stand in that spot. We saw the Prince exit his vehicle, turn the corner and locked his gaze in our direction and he didn’t stop until he was 2 feet in front of us. He spent 5 minutes talking to us and asking questions. I wish I had the same luck with lottery numbers! What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? I plan to double down on my work to inspire women and girls to chase their goals and dreams by finding self confidence and courage. Confidence is the foundation for moving past fears to reach your dreams, and these days far too many girls and Women are quitting because they are afraid. My academy will continue to teach confidence based courses that include public speaking, professionalism, walking, personal accountability, Interpersonal skills and deportment. Deportment covers everything related to elegance such as sitting, standing, posture and generally how we move. What would be your “dream job” in life? My dream job is to continue to teach and speak on the topics of confidence and courage, but the “dream” part would be that I would do it to BIG audiences all over the world. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I grew up in a tiny town on the border of Maine, U.S.A, called St.Stephen. I grew up on Park St in the 70’s and 80’s and with nearly 50 kids mostly the same age growing up there was bliss. Summers were spent swimming, playing ball on my Aunties lawn, skipping rope in the street and skate boarding. Winter brought Ice skating and sliding. The “Crazy Carpet” was the death trap of the day to take to the hills with. Being outside all day in the heat or the cold was just the way it was. If you needed to get warm or use the bathroom you simply went to the nearest neighbors house to do so. The most memorable summer of my life on Park St. was the summer i turned 12, it was 1977. I had watched the Miss America pageant previously and I was obsessed. I was not going to be happy until I produced my own pageant. If I could not find a pageant to join then I’d make my own! I canvased the girls up and down the street begging them to sign up. I asked the boys on the street to be judges, that was the easy part I made the crown from tin foil and laid down the agenda for the day. I also entered my own event, but did not win. That was the best summer of my life. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. The most interesting job I’ve had was as the Personal trainer for one of Canada’s Billionaire families. An unusual job i’ve had was that time I represented my husband’s company in court and I won against an actual lawyer. Talk about confidence. maybe a little too much! List any volunteering you have done. Board of Directors for Fitness N.B; President of Fitness New Brunswick; Fitness testing for Canadian Military applicants at the YMCA; PRUDE Inc Newcomer Women’s Leadership program facilitator. I am a recurring facilitator for this organization; Newcomer Youth Leadership facilitator; Mentor to International MBA students; Town of Rothesay Climate Adaptation committee; Rotary Club community clean up; Recurring guest lecturer at New Brunswick Community College speaking about professionalism. What is your most unusual talent? My most unusual talent is my strong intuition, gut instinct and ability to read people quickly. This talent makes me very good at energy healing and complimentary therapies such as Herbal Medicine, which is a long time passion of mine. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? In a word, Newfoundland. It is one of the most visually stunning places on earth and if you are Canadian you must go once in your life. The culture and history is truly like nowhere else. The most interesting thing though, is the fact that a mere 20 Km’s from the tip of Newfoundland you can see St. Pierre & Michelon, and that is France! yes, you can see France from Newfoundland. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years I will have capitalized in the most positive ways from being at the Miss Universe Canada pageant. I will be spreading my passion for confidence and courage to large audiences of Women and girls around the world. I will be promoting the benefits of pageantry, especially the Miss Universe Canada system. Competing at the Miss Universe Canada pageant, regardless of how far I may go, will be my legacy. I will use my experience here as a springboard for continuing my life’s work of mobilizing confidence and courage in women and girls. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I would be remiss not to mention my gratitude at being one of the first, perhaps THE first woman over age 28 to compete at the Miss Universe Canada Pageant. It is an honor to pave the way, and hopefully, make the path a little easier for women in the future. |

I have so many interests! I love fashion, being well dressed all the time is so satisfying. I love anything beauty related especially skincare. That’s why I created my own skincare cosmetics brand, it’s very important to feel beautiful even when you don’t wear make up so skincare is a must. I love cooking, I like to challenge myself to cook meals at home, in a fine restaurant-style, with beautiful decoration. I enjoy watching astronomy or nature documentaries on TV. I would rather watch a documentary than a movie, a show or reality-tv show. I think it’s because I love learning. It’s almost as if I stop learning, my spirit dies. I love working out, I started Pilates a year ago and I absolutely love it! It made me have more balance and flexibility List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Pilates In what sports, if any, have you participated? Pilates Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My boyfriend, in 2 years of being together he made me realize my potential. I lacked true self confidence for the longest. I used to be very shy, afraid to speak up. But he made me realize that my path is truly out of the ordinary, one of a kind. He made me realize that I can be a true inspiration for others What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? Definitely, building a 7 figure business. It was a dream of mine, I wanted to believe that I could achieve it. Then actually achieving it, still feels like a dream even though it is my reality now What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? Obtaining my tuition waiver scholarship in 2012. It is a scholarship program from the Cameroon High Commission in Canada which had been closed for 2 years before I applied. In fact, as a foreign student my tuition fees were around $16,000 per year but with this scholarship I paid $4,000 per year. Very few scholarships are awarded each year and I managed to get it on the first try. I had a GPA of 4.1/4.3 and I was the only student in the bachelor’s degree in business administration program at HEC Montreal in 2012 to obtain it. Without this scholarship I would never have been able to complete my studies because my parents had serious financial difficulties. I remember, I prayed every day for almost a year for this scholarship program to reopen, and finally God answered my prayer and I was able to apply for it What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition was to become an entrepreneur, to work for myself and create jobs for others. I had this dream of creating a business that I would be proud to get up for every morning. To be a boss that your employees would be proud to work for. So, in order to create it, I had to believe in myself. And let me tell you, everyone discouraged me especially when I resigned from the company I was working for. It wasn’t easy at all, I had no choice but to believe in myself, believe in my vision. And today it paid off because I’m living my dream, I’m living my dream life. So I plan to expand my business ventures and continue to grow my company. What would be your “dream job” in life? Thank God I a living my dream job, being an entrepreneur. Another thing I wish to do in this life, is to create a non profit organization to fund upcoming entrepreneurs and give them business advices, a form of mentorship. I never had a mentor in my life, I had to learn how to run a business myself, day by day. I believe I have so much teaching that can benefit others. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I grew up in a modest family with ups and downs. When I was born my father had a high position as general manager in an oil company in Cameroon. We were living in opulence at the time and then he was laid off. It was very difficult for all of us, the descent. We moved from a big house in a prestigious area of town (bonapriso) to a small apartment. Then few years later my father created his business, back to the top! He built a big house, was able to send my siblings and I to study in Canada. Before experiencing serious financial difficulties again. This is why I always wanted to create my own business so as not to see my life turned upside down overnight if I lost my job. Contrary to appearances, I am a person who is very careful with finances. I have been saving a lot since I was very little, even if I allow myself to live the life of my dreams, traveling, shopping etc now. I don’t take anything for granted and I always think about the future. My goal is to continue to live the life of my dreams for the rest of my life and build generational wealth. I am also very proud to be taking care of my family now. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. I worked in the farm fields for a summer. Weeds had to be removed, and vegetables/fruits harvested. I preferred to do it rather than be supported by a rich man. In fact, before this job, I was recruited in a coffee shop as a barista. And very quickly the owner, a wealthy man, started to seduce me from the first week of work. It made me very uncomfortable, so after only 2 weeks of work I preferred to resign. I then looked for other jobs but couldn’t find any because I had just arrived in Canada. The only work I could find during my studies was in the farm fields. And I have never been afraid or ashamed to do this type of manual work, very difficult. List any volunteering you have done. I love volunteering, giving back to the community is very important for me.I believe that God uses some people to bless others. I have been living abroad for a little while and as expats we created a non profit organization called Force for Good. Every now and then we meet the local communities and bring gifts, supplies, we have activities like playing with kids, small football tournaments etc… Also when I go back to Cameroon I like to visit orphanages, public schools, and bring them food, supplies. I even went to remote areas, in villages to bring toys, food, supplies and medication to population. In Montreal, as Miss Cameroon Canada I worked with so many non profits organization, for example with “Les trempettes à Barrette” we gave food to homeless people in the streets. With another non profit organization in Montreal G12 we collected supplies for children in Africa. During one event I even hosted an art auction for the benefit of sick children in Africa. What is your most unusual talent? I eat very fast! I once won a food competition. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Visit the Chichen Itza pyramid in Mexico. I am fascinated by ancient civilizations. And visiting this place was just magical. I also plan to visit the pyramids of Egypt. I have a theory according to which the world is cyclical, I think that technologically advanced civilizations existed before and have now disappeared. Because scientists even today cannot really explain how these pyramids were made and they are still in great condition today. This makes me think it could happen again. And the world would start again from 0. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In 10 years I wish to have an established real estate company, continue to grow my skincare brand internationally, be a proud mom and wife. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I was not born in Canada but I have become a proud Canadian citizen. What makes Canada beautiful today is its multiculturalism, so I hope to have the chance and the honor to become the next Miss Universe Canada. |

| Melina Svab Height: 5’4 Hometown: Tecumseh, ON Languages: English Occupation: Retail Store Manager Being a woman filled with determination and passion, Melina aims to inspire everyone she meets. Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Melina knows there are countless opportunities for her to earn and achieve. Melina currently has 3 post-secondary degrees, and aims to earn her Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology in the next 2 years to further her career as a therapist working with young adults struggling with anxiety and mood disorders. With every job she has had, she has always found a way to work her way to the top. She believes that there is nothing that can stop you if you want it, you just need to take a chance and do it. While struggling through undiagnosed mental health issues from youth to early adulthood, Melina discovered her passion for assisting others. Being a part of her community allowed her to make a greater impact when sharing her story. Discovering herself through shared experience, she found a love for pageantry. For Melina, pageantry is anchored in her passion for mental health awareness. She actively promotes her platform and how to cope with the struggles of mental health through her social media. No matter your struggle, your mental health matters because you matter. During hard times, Melina has been able to build something from nothing. She owned and operated a small online business during the COVID pandemic that focused on using recycled fabrics, turning them into reusable items including scrunchies, headbands, and face masks. MV&Co was more than just a business. Although starting as a creative outlet to assist her through her mental health struggles during those tough times, Melina knew that there was more potential for this business and hosted fundraisers to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). As a Sole focus project ambassador, she continues to dedicate her time and energy to CMHA throughout the years by assisting in any volunteering opportunities they have alongside hosting fundraisers of her own to support their organization. Melina is honoured to be selected to showcase her determination and passion on the stage of Miss Universe Canada. She will continue to support her local community and hopes to be able to use this platform to reach a larger audience for the issues close to her heart. Melina is excited to have the opportunity to show that no matter where you are in life, every experience, every failure, and every achievement is a step leading you to a successful and fulfilling life. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? Some of my interests include painting, dancing, scrapbooking, reading, clothing design, and golfing. I enjoy art the most as it is a serene way to express my feelings and create something wonderful. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Bachelors degree in Visual Arts & Psychology, over 10 years of visual art experience, 8 years of dance experience. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I have participated in golf, dance, and wrestling. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My best friend Shauna has been such an inspiration to me. I met her almost 8 years ago at a photoshoot, and watched her grow into a wonderful person. Seeing her become a confident, driven, and enthusiastic woman inspires me everyday to continue to uphold those qualities in myself. We have uplifted, motivated and supported each other for so many years, and I will continue to share this with every person I meet in hopes I can inspire those same qualities. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? Being the first one in my family to graduate from the University of Windsor, and then from Fanshawe College with Dean’s Honor Roll Distinction with a 97% average is one of my proudest accomplishments at this time. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? Being a titleholder through COVID was one of the most interesting things that I have experienced in life. It challenged my skills and knowledge on how to maintain connections with the community while remaining so far away from them physically. I spent time learning how to complete online fundraisers, developing new ways to reach out to people to connect, and maintain my mental health. Identifying how to cope with mental health while being isolated and maintaining an online presence was hard until I recognized that sharing my story will help others as I am not alone in this. Building new relationships and connections through this time advanced my knowledge to better prepare me for the future. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? After graduating with a degree in Visual Arts & Psychology, I decided I will continue to fuel my devotedness to helping others by becoming a therapist. I have currently applied to pursue a Masters in Counselling psychology to further my career. Being able to help others find who they are, and give them the support they need to continue advancing in their life provides me with a sense of duty and accomplishment knowing I have been able to assist them and made an impact in their life. What would be your “dream job” in life? Learning about coffee became a passion of mine when I worked at Starbucks for 3 years. Knowing how the flavour had different tastes notes depending on where it was grown, and how different food pairings would enhance the flavour of coffee inspired me to continue to gain more knowledge. Since then, I have always wanted to open my own coffee shop that has a showroom for art, and host art classes, such as a morning coffee and paint sessions, or evening with wine and paint nights. It brings my love of art, coffee, and getting to know people all together to create my fulfilling dream job. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born in Windsor, ON. I have 2 younger sisters, and supportive parents. We never had a lot of money throughout my life, but my parents always showed us how to live our best life with what we had and be grateful for those things. When I was in highschool, we moved to LaSalle, ON. Living in a small town, you learned who your neighbours were, what they were up to, and how their life was going. They became part of your family. You see them at holidays, and have summer BBQ’s together. They are my chosen family, and I would not change a thing about it. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. I worked at a small family owned business called Art Splash for 2 years. Art Splash provided many different types of art classes. You could paint ceramics for keepsakes or take a canvas painting class. This allowed me to showcase my talents, but also help others create memories they will never forget. Although painting can be such a small activity, it has such an impact in someone’s life. Many of the art pieces made were gifts, or made in memory of someone, and the people and the receiving side of the pieces were full of emotions. List any volunteering you have done. Community service has been a large part of my life since I was 17. I have volunteered with a plethora of charities, but there are a few that have made a larger impact in my life. Cystic Fibrosis was one of the first charities that I became involved with. They did many events, but one that I was always at was the Princess Ball. This event consisted of encouraging young princesses and princes to be their best selves. Look up to the role models of our community, to give them more hope in believing in themselves. Transition to betterness (T2B) I have modelled for them in fashion shows hosted to raise money for their foundations, participate in their Halloween Spooktacular, and sell raffle tickets at the T2B Gala. The charity that has impacted my life the most is The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). I participate in the suicide prevention walk, Rock your Sole dinner and concert, and I have hosting my our fundraisers, including Move it: For Mental health and a handmade scrunchie fundraiser raising over $1500, while being and Sole Focus project ambassador for CMHA. What is your most unusual talent? I met a friend 8 years ago and she taught me how to belly dance. I was surprisingly great at it! I continued taking classes and self taught my self more advanced moves and continue belly dancing. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? After doing some travelling, the place that I found to be the most interesting was Cuba. When preparing for Cuba, I knew that the people there were struggling, but I did not realise how terribly. My family and I all packed an extra suitcase of supplies that we could hand out to people when met in town. We packed hygiene products, clothes we were going to get rid of, some candy for the kids, and more. When we arrived, we were able to meet with our tour guide who one of our family members met previously. She showed us the real Cuba. She gave us information on the struggles of daily life, what they saw on a day to day basis, and how they grew from it. When we asked our tour guide how she could be so happy living like this, she told us that “why be sad with the life I am living, when I can live a happy life with what I have. I am grateful for all I have and what comes my way.” This allowed me to perceive life in a different view and to stop stressing about the small things in life. Cuba had so much beauty in the destruction of everything around it, and its people lived life to the fullest. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In 10 years, I will be a counselling therapist, supporting those who are struggling with mental health, own a house, get another animal (preferably another cat), become married, and continue to volunteer in my community. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? Living in a life full of bullying was one of the hardest things I have ever had to overcome. In grade school I was bullied for being too short. In high school, I was bullied for having too much fat on my stomach, and my chest growing too quickly. A rumour went around school, saying I was pregnant. It was one of the hardest things I ever experienced, and I lost 40 lbs over the course of 3 months. I thought at such a young age, it was better to be accepted as small and skinny. Little did I know how much my mental health was affected. Since then, I have learned that I need to take care of myself physically and mentally, and to not let other people’s opinions shape who I am. I am me for me. |

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest personal accomplishment has been rewiring my brain and healing it completely from a year-long post concussion syndrome from two sports accidents. During that year, I had to take a complete break from all work, social activities, and my personal commitments. I didn’t know if I was ever going to heal. As I stayed in bed for months, I had time to slow down and reflect. My perspective on life completely shifted. This made me fall in love with the welcoming nature of the Madeiran people. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? | Michelle Carpentier-Solorio Height: 5’4 Hometown: Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot, QC Languages: English, French, Spanish Occupation: Psychiatric nurse practitioner Michelle learned at a young age of the privilege that it is to be Canadian. Though born in her mother’s native Mexico and Montreal always called home, Michelle spent much of her childhood following her engineer father as he traveled from Canada to developing countries in the hope of improving their electrical grids. In her years living in Ethiopia, Guinea, Haiti and Senegal she witnessed a world where safety is not guaranteed, where families are a meal away from starvation and parents struggle to give their children a better life than their own. In 2009, Guinea enacted Martial Law and with the country on the brink of civil war, Michelle was urgently evacuated and returned to Canada permanently. These life experiences shaped her appreciation for Canada and the fortunate status we have to live in such a democratic, peaceful and progressive country. Her childhood sensitized her to the struggles of daily living and fostered in her a drive to improve the lives of others. In 2016, Michelle graduated from the University of Montreal with a Bachelors degree in nursing and spent the next years working as a nurse in an emergency department, as an assistant-head nurse of a locked high-risk psychiatry unit and as the nurse manager of an outpatient clinic treating initial psychotic episodes. Most recently, Michelle completed a Masters degree at the University of Montreal and is now a nurse practitioner with a specialization in mental health. She is presently highly involved in treating and advocating for persons ill with a number of complex mental health disorders. With the mental health epidemic only worsening and the access to care becoming increasingly difficult for Canadians, Michelle hopes to help address these needs by one day opening a clinic of her own. A dream of hers is to one day return the countries of her childhood as a volunteer with doctors without borders. Michelle will advocate for equality between genders and inspire women to focus on their mental and physical health. In competing for Miss Universe Canada, she will also show women can be beautiful, but also intelligent and strong. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I enjoy traveling, painting and staying active. I am quite adventurous and am always up for a challenge! There is nothing I love more than going out hiking with my two baby Rottweilers. Sometimes, I bring my two little rabbits; but they tend to become distracted by the all-you-can-eat leaf buffet. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I have a bachelors in nursing, a masters in nursing as a nurse practitioner specialized in mental health and a certification in medical aesthetics. I had piano, guitar and German classes for several years. I also did aerobic dance and Zumba. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I grew up in a household that would wake up at 3am to watch tennis broadcasts. To this day, my parents still have tennis streaming from 8am onwards. To say I was encouraged to play tennis is an understatement! I played the sport for many years and enjoyed the competition. I also ran track while living in Ethiopia. The capital Addis Abba in 7000 feet in altitude, and I like to think running in low-oxygen and high heat helped my cardio. In Guinea, where I lived for 4 years, I did other track sports including vault jumping and hurdling. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My husband, Patrick, has been a real role model for me. He pushed me to go for it and pursue my master’s degree and specialization as a nurse practitioner in mental health. Despite the fact that he was very busy and working long hours during his fellowship in critical care, he supported me. For me, he is an example of perseverance and success. Despite all the obstacles, he graduated from medical school, obtained his specialization in anesthesiology while still being there for his father who had precarious health. In addition, he did not hesitate to embark on an arduous sub-specialty training in critical care medicine to be able to treat the sickest persons. He is an example to follow and I am very proud of him. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? I think reaching my professional goals is my most significant accomplishment. But I am also particularly proud to have trained my two 110lbs Rottweilers to be loyal, kind and gentle companions. I get a lot of looks when people see me and my small frame walking down the street with two gentle giants! What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? While not a typical ‘interesting’ moment, I did experience an unexpected challenge. While I was working full-time and pursuing further training, both my dogs had to undergo multiple orthopaedic surgeries. My youngest required the reconstruction of her pelvis because of hip dysplasia and shortly after, my eldest tore her knee ligaments. Four surgeries in total in less than one year. Dogs, unlike people, do not understand what has just happened to them and do not know that their recovery is precarious. Stopping dogs from running, jumping and just being themselves is certainly not easy any day; now imagine keeping them calm for a year. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition is to build a clinic to improve access to mental and physical medical care and also add medical aesthetics to my practice. To do this, I need to focus on building a team and, through my positive leadership, encourage the team to innovate in the medical field. I would also like to launch a campaign to promote both the inner and outer beauty of women, combat body shaming, and promote self-acceptance. What would be your “dream job” in life? I am fortunate that after much studying and hard work, I am now working in my dream profession in a field I love. In the future, I would like to open a clinic to further improve access to mental and physical medical care. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. Though I was born in my mother’s native Mexico, I spent much of my childhood following my Canadian engineer father as he traveled to impoverished countries in hope of developing their electrical grids. In Ethiopia, Guinea, Haiti and Senegal I witnessed a world where safety is not guaranteed, hunger is always a meal away from starvation and parents struggle to give their children a better life than their own. In 2009, Guinea enacted Martial Law and with the country on the brink of civil war, I was urgently evacuated and returned to Canada permanently. These life experiences shaped my appreciation for Canada and the fortunate status we have to live in such a democratic, peaceful and progressive country. My childhood sensitized me to the struggles of daily living and fostered my drive to improve the lives of others. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. When I was younger, before venturing into the medical field, I worked a lot in customer service. This allowed me to develop my communication skills, which proved helpful when I later interned in psychiatry. Then, psychiatry allowed me to strengthen my personality, set boundaries, and respect them. I believe these experiences shaped my personality and made me the person I am today. List any volunteering you have done. (2023 – Present) Participating in drafting guidelines for assisted dying in Quebec for psychiatric conditions. (2023 – Present) Collaborating with the Government of Quebec to establish standards of excellence for the practice of Nurse Practitioner Specialists in Mental Health in Quebec. (2019-2021) Nurse Practitioner Specialist in Mental Health representative for the University of Montreal. (2018) Drafting of the Medication Reconciliation Procedure at the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Laval. (2016) Participation in the Alice Girard Symposium to promote a project aiming to integrate transcultural care into medical practice. (2007-2009) Volunteering at the A.N.A.I.M Hospital in Kamsar, Guinea. What is your most unusual talent? I did raise a few eyebrows when I told a friend ‘my rabbit is asking for kale, not lettuce’. Maybe there is a little bit of Dr.Dolittle in me? I seem to have a knack for understanding what animals are trying to communicate. I think one of the pillars of a better world is education and education is not only important for humans, but also with animals as well. Training animals properly begins in being able to understand what they are trying to communicate and I think having grown up with dozens of family pets, I now am a little bit of an animal whisperer. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? I am fortunate to have lived in 6 different countries and visited over 20. However, my most memorable experience is going on a safari in Kenya when I was a teenager. There is something very magical about seeing so many animals in the wild. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In 10 years, I hope to have opened a medical clinic focused on total body, mental and physical wellbeing. I also know for women, one’s appearance and one’s self-esteem are often linked. With this in mind, I have begun work in medical aesthetics and in the near future I would like to incorporate it into my practice. In 10 years time, I also hope to have seen more of this wonderful world we live in and experienced new cultures. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? In becoming Miss Universe Canada, my purpose is to use my voice to enact positive change in the world and inspire women to achieve their dreams. We can succeed at anything in life if we persevere. Being positive and determined is the key. I would also like to add how grateful and honoured I am to be able to take part in this competition. |

Finally, in the last couple of years, I realized prioritizing self-care was essential for maintaining balance and well-being. So I lowered my screen time and changed my routine for example I started doing masks, going to the spa, doing sports and reading books. I have a passion for lifelong learning, whether it’s delving into new languages with an app that we all know, acquiring new skills, or exploring different fields of knowledge. Nowadays it is easy to take a new class either online or anywhere in Montreal. Her insights and teachings have profoundly impacted my journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Mel Robbins rose to fame in her 40s, following the publication of her bestselling book, “The 5 Second Rule,” and her empowering talks that reached millions worldwide. Mel Robbins’ journey to success was not without its struggles. She faced personal challenges, including financial difficulties, self-doubt, and career setbacks. However, it was during this period of struggle that she discovered the transformative power of the “5 Second Rule.” By taking small, decisive actions within five seconds of feeling inspired, Mel was able to break free from procrastination and self-doubt, ultimately transforming her life and inspiring others to do the same. Mel Robbins’ resilience and determination to overcome adversity serve as a powerful reminder that success is possible at any age. Her journey exemplifies that life is not over after one’s 20s or 30s; rather, it is a continual journey of growth, learning, and self-discovery. As a contestant for Miss Universe Canada in my thirties, I am inspired by Mel Robbins’ story to show women everywhere that age is not a limitation to pursuing their dreams and making a positive impact in the world. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? Beyond participating in this pageant, my proudest personal accomplishment is undoubtedly my journey of self-transformation and resilience. Overcoming insecurities rooted in societal pressures and embracing my authentic self has been a profound triumph. From pursuing my passion for swimming and lifeguarding to navigating a successful career in finance while staying true to my values of giving back to the community, each milestone represents a testament to my inner strength and determination. At the age of 17, I made the bold decision to move to a different continent, leaving behind familiar surroundings to pursue higher education. This experience challenged me to adapt to new cultures, languages, and environments, fostering resilience and a sense of independence that has shaped my character ever since. Often, the mechanisms of anxiety are passed down through generations, perpetuating a cycle that can be difficult to break. Through my own journey of healing and self-discovery, I have learned strategies to help younger generations navigate and overcome these challenges, empowering them to embrace their uniqueness and build resilience in the face of adversity. To accomplish this goal, I plan to leverage my background in finance and business to amplify the conversation around mental wellness. Additionally, I aim to collaborate with organizations and initiatives dedicated to destigmatizing mental health issues and providing accessible resources for individuals in need. Having experienced societal pressure and outdated stereotypes myself, I understand the harmful impact of ageism and unrealistic beauty standards. My motto is: Do it scared, do it now. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? One of the most interesting places I’ve had the privilege of visiting is the stunning Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada. Immersing myself in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Canadian Rockies, with their majestic peaks, turquoise lakes, and abundant wildlife, was an unforgettable experience. The serene landscapes and pristine wilderness of these parks left a profound impact on me, reminding me of the importance of preserving and protecting our natural treasures for future generations. This trip was a transformative experience that allowed me to connect with nature and break free from the monotony of my finance job, where I spent long hours confined to an office. It inspired me to encourage others to spend more time in nature, as it has the power to uplift our lives, change our perspectives, and provide opportunities for meditation and introspection. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years, I envision myself continuing to advocate for mental health awareness and empowerment, both on a local and global scale. Additionally, I am deeply committed to helping the young generation feel worthy, love their bodies, and find a path to lead peaceful lives, free from anxiety and self-doubt. Through dedicated efforts and collaborative initiatives, I aim to create a supportive and nurturing environment where everyone can thrive and fulfill their potential. Furthermore, I hope to utilize the Miss Universe platform as the best way to show women that beauty transcends age, and that women are just as beautiful and vibrant past the age of 30. I believe that true beauty lies in uplifting and supporting other women, rather than engaging in competition. Every woman is unique and possesses her own beauty, and it is important that we celebrate and appreciate each other’s beauty on a daily basis. By promoting a message of unity, empowerment, and appreciation for all women, I aim to foster a more inclusive and compassionate society where every individual feels valued and respected.
