Lannie knows she has everything it takes to make Canada proud on the Miss Universe stage. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I am huge on being involved within my community, weather that’s through coaching local sports teams or volunteer opportunities. I am incredibly blessed to call my current job the most enjoyable thing in my life, being able to teach/coach my gift of running to younger kids in Indigenous communities is amazing. If I’m not doing that you can find me somewhere on a golf course. I recently started competing in golf and its taught me a lot about mental strength and patience. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) - Personal trainer
- Children’s fitness instructor
- XC running/skiing coach
- Fastball coach
In what sports, if any, have you participated? - Major Midget AAA/ JR.A Hockey
- Elite fastball
- Nike invitational High School track and field nationals
- University of Concordia XC Running/ Indoor Track
I grew up in a very competitive sports family so it was only natural that I worked very hard in order to play at the highest level possible in that specific sport. Playing sports have instilled my work ethic, confidence and making meaningful relationships that transferred into my daily life. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My aunty Carrie because she is a perfect example of what a strong independent woman is. Throughout my life, she has been my second mom, cheerleader, and my unconditional supporter. Her work ethic, generosity and sound advice have made the biggest influence in my life. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest accomplishment is my gift of running long distance. Running has given me the ability to represent Team Canada at the WIG games in Brazil, and attend University, all of those opportunities have given me the ability to set up running/walking groups where everyone receives a free pair of running shoes. Throughout the 4 years of hosting these running groups, I gave away over 1500 shoes. And coaching at xc running and track and field events along with indigenous schools. Using my gift of running for more than just competing is my proudest personal accomplishment. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? The most unique thing about me is that I was the final torchbearer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics that got to light the cauldron in front of 10,000 people in my hometown of Vernon, BC. After that, I did a media tour around the Okanagan. I was only 13 years old. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? I currently work with Spirit North which is a national charitable organization that uses land-based activities to improve the health and well-being of Indigenous youth, empowering them to become unstoppable in sport, school and life. My goal is to continue my outreach on as many communities as possible by being a positive role model and challenging myself to keep improving daily to be the best possible person so I can continue my work. What would be your “dream job” in life? Although it’s true that my current job would be considered my dream job. Being Miss. Universe Canada would be an amazing platform to expand my work not only in Indigenous communities but across Canada and being able to travel around the world that would be my dream job. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was fortunate enough to grow up in two different places Goodfish Lake Alberta and Vernon British Columbia surrounded by both of my families. Goodfish Lake is a small Indigenous community in Northern Alberta that I am so proud to call home. As I get older, I grow more appreciation for being raised there for majority of my childhood. Goodfish Lake is a very family orientated place where we can always count on one another to show up in a time of need or cheer on the local sports teams. It takes a village to raise a child and I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for all the love and support, I receive from my family and community. Vernon is where I spent my older years at and currently live today. I’ve made some of my best friends here and continue to appreciate the beauty of the Okanagan. I love golfing, hiking and boating during the summers and skiing in the winter. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. My most interesting job was I worked with an organization that encouraged female participation in sport/gym class by making the environment inclusive by all skill level and working on self-esteem/confidence. List any volunteering you have done. - AMA Go Run Girls!
- Moccasin Mile
- Run and walking clubs
- Coaching local softball teams/ track and field
- Community Evangelical Church
- Indian Residential School Survivors society
- Edmonton Soup Kitchen
What is your most unusual talent? I can bend both of my thumbs back to touch my forearms. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? San Fransico Nike Womens Half Marathon Championships because I was able to experience it with my mom and I placed 15th overall. It was my first international race which made it extra special to have my mom with me and my family watching online. After the race, we explored San Fransisco for a couple days before I flew out to Brazil for another race. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In 10 years, I hope to have my own non-profit that helps support the youth in being fully confident and prepared to follow their dreams whether it’s through sports, music or academics. I would also love to have my own family by then. A lot can happen in 10 years so no matter where I end up, I hope I lived to my full potential up until that point and still strive to be a better person every single day. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? If being crowned Miss Universe Canada it will give me the opportunity to use my platform to open up doors of diversity, inclusion and leadership to empower women of all backgrounds. Showcasing that with hard work, faith and stepping out with confidence you can make your dreams a reality. |

| lia loebenberg Height: 5’8 Hometown: Montreal, QC Languages: English, French, Hebrew Occupation: Student at McGill University (Anatomy and Cell Biology) Lia knows that she has experienced an immense loss and hardship, but she also knows that this is her source of strength. When she was 8 years old, her older sister was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor. Looking back at her childhood, Lia sees 8 years of her sister suffering through surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. She remembers living in constant fear of losing her only sibling. Laura passed away at the age of 22. While there is no cure for grief, Lia realized that a person always has a choice. She lives by the saying: “Obstacles don’t block the path, they are the path”. She decided to use this life-changing experience to look towards improving the future. While keeping the memory of her sister alive, Lia’s ambition to become a doctor was born. Lia is without a doubt a scientist at heart. By the age of 17, she had already performed 4 independent research projects in various university laboratories. She was the first in her school’s history to receive 4 gold medals for her research projects and has displayed her experiments at regional, provincial and national competitions. In a Canada-wide Science competition, she received a medal and 4 scholarships for her cancer research. She has amassed over 20 awards in recognition of her achievements. In 2017 and 2018, Lia was invited to speak with Dr. Joe Schwartz on his show and was interviewed by the Montreal Gazette for an article titled “Award-winning N.D.G. teen inspired by her dying sister’s passion for science”. Upon high school graduation, she received the PSBGM scholarship for having persevered in the face of overwhelming odds and for academic excellence. After high school, Lia started working on a dementia research team where she works with individuals with cognitive impairments. She is now studying Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University, while being a consultant for that same research team. Above all, she wants to help people. This is why Lia believes she would be a compassionate and balanced Miss Universe Canada. She hopes it would allow her to grow her cause to support families living with illness. Her heart and spirit are always poured into her work. Inspired by the loss of her sister, Lia devotes herself to supporting other children and families that are living with disease. She volunteers for Chai Lifeline, the same organization that helped her own family. Lia is also an ambassador and Committee member of Brain Cancer Canada and a volunteer for the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada. She is a firm believer that the support of families dealing with life-threatening conditions is crucial because she is aware of its emotional impact. She is most proud of her courage in the face of adversity and her genuine love of life. Lia is a natural-born leader and nurturer. Friends and loved ones choose to approach her as a shoulder to cry on and a person to confide in. Being the daughter of an immigrant, Lia would like to show the younger generation that beauty can come in all forms and from all backgrounds. There is no mold or cookie cutter for beauty; it is found in passion, commitment and a desire to instill real change. Being part of Miss Universe Canada is a tremendous honor and Lia intends to approach it with all the devotion and dynamism she has to offer. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? Cooking, drawing, and exercising are my main passions. I show people I love them through my cooking. I cook if I’m upset and I cook if I’m happy, so basically, you’ll never go hungry if you stick by my side. Other than food, drawing is another one of my passions ever since I was a child. I started by sketching strangers on napkins and now I spend over 5 hours on some of my drawings. It’s one of those hobbies that makes you feel at home no matter where you are in the world. On the day-to-day, I am a strong believer in the benefit of leading a healthy lifestyle. It builds confidence, mindfulness, and a strong body. That’s why I’m in love with going to the gym and weight training. Feeling happy and comfortable in your skin is difficult yet empowering. The passion that I hold closest to my heart is my volunteer work. I am primarily working with children and families with life-threatening illnesses since I personally know how valuable it can be to receive support when you have an ill family member. I want to prevent anyone in that situation from feeling alone or neglected. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I work on a research team that deals with the memory performance of people with cognitive impairments. To help with my understanding of the experiences of the participants I would work with, I took an Alzheimer’s certification course with The Alzheimer Society of Montreal to learn the fundamentals of the disease. Also, when I was in college, I came across a team that offered constant access to first aid. Through joining, I received my First Aid certification. Although this is a personal form of training, I have started my fitness journey 4 years ago. I have been training several times a week ever since because I love how strong it makes me feel. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I love weight training, yoga, Pilates, rock climbing and badminton. I’m always open to trying and participating in new sports. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My older sister, Laura, is the most impressive and special person I have ever known. She lost a battle to brain cancer at the age of 22 and dealt with treatments, surgeries and chronic pain for almost 10 years. Her sheer strength was otherworldly. Despite her constant suffering, she tried to give me a normal childhood though hers was taken from her. Laura always put others in front of herself. She kept her sense of humor and sparkle till the end. She even spoke about her battle in front of thousands of people to fundraise for other children struggling with disease. Laura’s passing was an enormous loss for our family and for our world. But I still live by her, and I live to ensure her legacy and her desire to improve the world lives on. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? I am most proud of my accomplishments in research. Especially in these times, I am a strong believer that research is paramount for the improvement and progress of our world. New discoveries, developments in procedures and treatments while fascinating, also hold such a heavy duty. I was ecstatic to represent Quebec in The Canada-Wide Science Fair for my research project about discovering cancer’s dependencies for targeted treatments, where I received scholarships to Canadian Universities and a medal. I investigated the importance of a protein called Anillin. Today, Anillin is considered a possible target for targeted treatments. After having presented this experiment, I was asked to do 2 media interviews and started working on a research team. My passion for fighting disease drove me to explore targeted cancer treatments and I intend to continue researching in the future. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? Something funny about me is that I was born on my front porch instead of in a hospital. My mom spent too much time packing and didn’t end up making it to the car! What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My greatest career ambition falls in line with my greatest passion. I plan to attend medical school and afterwards specialize in fertility. I know that this will take constant work and many sleepless nights, but I also know that when you have a goal this close to your heart, it is worth every single minute. I am incredibly grateful for the support from the people in my life for pushing me to pursue my goals. I would not be able to have done it all without their help. In the future, I equally want to be involved with the youth in science. I currently tutor several students in math, science and physics and I would love to continue to motivate both myself and others to be successful in achieving our goals. What would be your “dream job” in life? My dream job is to be a fertility specialist in my own women’s health and fertility clinic. I want to assist all men and women struggling with fertility and reproductive issues because I truly believe that family is one of the most beautiful things in life. People deserve the chance to build one even if their bodies will not cooperate! Another feature of my “dream job” would be to offer mentorship, shadowing opportunities and to organize workshops and events for the youth. Children are without a doubt our future, and their minds are incredibly bright and powerful. I think that what you do is just as important as who you are. Motivating younger people to want to instill change, to want to make an impact, to improve society, is a large part of what I would attempt. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born in Montreal, Quebec to my Israeli immigrant mother and Canadian father. I was forced to grow up very quickly due to my sister, Laura, being diagnosed with brain cancer. In elementary school, a memory that left a mark on me was a classmate telling me “I hope your sister doesn’t die”. You grow up believing that your siblings and your parents are immortal. As a child, coming to terms with the fact that your sister might pass away was very scary. I’m not angry about what happened because I know that it was out of my control. Instead of dwelling on the past, I can control my attitude and what I choose to do in the future. As a family, we tried to overcome what life had to throw at us. I will forever treasure the memory of Laura. These kinds of experiences teach you a lot about life. Mainly, I became more aware of all the quiet hardships people carry around every day and that kindness and support is incredibly powerful. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. During the first year of the pandemic, I started a small chocolate business where I handcrafted, Belgian chocolate goods. I designed packaging, invested in equipment and in my first 3 weeks of being open, I sold almost a thousand chocolate spheres! I love the concept of building something from the ground up. I try to always prove to myself that if you put in the time and passion, you can achieve so much. One of my core values is that you always have a choice: a choice to stand down or a choice to be proactive and to try something new that scares you. List any volunteering you have done. - Chai Lifeline Canada: Big Sister Program, I spend time with and I tutor children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses.
- Brain Cancer Canada (Ambassador/Partnerships and Stakeholders Committee)
- Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada
- Heal & Hope
- Manoir Renaissance senior residence
- Chabad NDG
- First Aid Team: shifts in the first aid room
- Health Promotion Team: organize events concerning student health issues such as smoking, consent and emotional health.
- Students Help Students: offered open office hours to help students struggling with Calculus.
What is your most unusual talent? I’m good at improvising in the kitchen, especially if there are few ingredients to work with. Also, I can do my makeup mostly successfully in moving vehicles! Where is the most interesting place you have been to? I would say that walking through the catacombs in Northern Israel was an incredible experience. It really felt like I was breathing in history. I love travelling experiences where you get to feel and learn the past of the place. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? There are so many goals and people I would like to see in my future. I hope that I will achieve my dream of winning the title of Miss Universe Canada. I hope to be a medical doctor, to be spending time with all the loving people in my life, to be constantly developing my skills and hobbies, trying new things and mentoring young women in science who want to pursue their dreams. Altogether, I want to both achieve my personal aspirations, and to have a general positive impact on the world. I want to carry on the memory and successes of all the great minds we have lost. Lastly, I would like to contribute to the progression of technology, to help improve the healthcare system and to advocate for making healthcare more accessible to a greater amount of people. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I have previously said that I strongly believe in the power of science and hard work, but I would like to say that I even more strongly believe in the power of people. I would like to remind the younger generation that life will likely never go as planned, but that is okay. I never imagined that I would be where I am, that I would lose a sister, that I would be in Miss Universe Canada. We are more resilient than we think. We are far more worthy, beautiful, and capable than we are led to believe. Having a different look or a mind that functions differently does not speak of our value and of our possible contribution. Receiving the title of Miss Universe Canada would mean to me that I could show all of us how remarkable we are in our differences, how beautiful it is to have this mosaic of a world and how much our presence matters. |

Drawing is my favourite, it comes pretty close with cooking. I would say that I can be very introverted and when things feel too much I find drawing and cooking so therapeutic to me. They’re a pretty close tie honestly. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I used to dance ballet, and swim. I still draw portraits. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? I would have to say my brother and my grandmother. My brother is extremely funny, loving and caring towards me.. and my grandmother taught me how to love others and be compassionate, she passed away when I was very young but I have so many distinct memories of and with her. She really knew how to demonstrate love, and her love towards me always reminds me to be kind and open. To always look for ways to show love to others and not withhold it. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? Graduating from an intensive post-secondary program, BCIT is no joke.. Great experience, even better friendships, but 8 courses a semester, not sure if I could do that again! What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I actually am a twin, I have a twin brother. I think the most interesting thing about me is my unique sense of humour and maybe being double-jointed in the arm haha. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition would be to create my own organization focusing on providing mental health resources and education for minority groups and immigrants. I’m still working on figuring out how to execute that, but it’s something I have thought about for a long time… I hope this opportunity may help me create a roadmap. What would be your “dream job” in life? My dream job in life would be to create an organization where educating others and helping others is the end goal. I love sharing knowledge and supporting other people. That feeling to me is something unmatched. My dream job would bring meaning to me in a different sense than work. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. My childhood was very simple and blissful. I was raised in Burnaby BC, and I spent a lot of time outside playing with my brother and neighbours kids. I was a big tom boy because I pretty much followed everything my brother did and was into. I loved the playground I love the grass fields, picking berries in the summer. It was great. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. Well, one time I tried selling heaters door to door during my University of Ottawa days and it was freezing and honestly quite hilarious. I met a friend named Mo, it was definitely not an ideal job but hey I met a friend out of it. List any volunteering you have done. Downtown east side, united way campaign. What is your most unusual talent? Being able to eat almost a whole watermelon in one sitting. You would be surprised at how much I can really stretch my stomach. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Definitely when I visited my dads home town, which is Inner Mongolia in China. There’s a lot of diverse culture and foods there, it was very beautiful but also very humbling. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In 10 years, I would hope to be running an organization which focuses on educating and supporting minorities in mental health education and resources. I would love to be married with a family, but ultimately I just want to be happy. Whatever that means to me then, because life is always changing and it’s really a crazy unexpected journey. |

| lydie rivera Height: 5’4 Hometown: Quebec City, QC Languages: English, French, Spanish (conversational) Occupation: Model Lydie Rivera was born in Quebec city and lives currently in Vancouver, British Columbia. After going to college for Musical Theater, she also got certified as a travel agent and a Zumba instructor. Having a passion for traveling, she lived 6 months in Turks and Caicos and 1 year and a half in the Dominican Republic, working in an all-inclusive resort where she was working as a childcare coordinator during the day and performing in shows at night. She moved by herself at the age of 22 to pursue acting and she just graduated from the Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts in the province of British Columbia. If you know Lydie, you know that she loves to keep herself busy learning new skills. It could be boxing today and ballet tomorrow but one thing is sure, she is discovering something new. Full of life, she loves having fun and making other people smile. One of the main reasons why she is participating in this contest is because she wants to make an impact on people’s lives and especially young women. She used to work with kids and teenagers and she was very passionate about how much she would connect with them and enjoy showing them how to be confident young ladies that will one day become powerful women. Lydie also noticed how badly the pandemic has affected a lot of people’s lives and would like to help the homeless communities in Canada and the individuals struggling with depression. During the last year, Lydie got an agent and started having auditions for TV. She has her first experiences on set for being a background dancer and a model in movie scenes. Her first beauty pageant was in Florida last November where she was a finalist in her category and had an amazing experience. She is making sure to keep traveling the world and to discover new places and cultures. Giving dance classes, she visited West Africa for the first time and traveled with friends within the states. Her love and passion for life and performing arts has been highly noticed and appreciated in Vancouver where she made a lot of friends who support her. MUC 2022 is where she is currently focusing her energy. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I am a full-time dreamer and I absolutely love traveling. I have my own goals in acting and dancing but I also have much bigger dreams and project ideas for this world to be a better place. Educating young women on self-love and feeling powerful and confident is one of the things I aspire to do more and more. Learning and sharing with others is something that I constantly try to do. I enjoy quality time with my friends, whether it is to learn a new instrument, to try a kickboxing class or to go for sunday brunch, I’m in! List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I played cello for 6 years during my younger years, I also studied in musical theater for 3 years and have been a dancer for several years now. I actually just got my Zumba instructor certification and I am mostly trained as a latin dancer. Even though I can appreciate any form of art, drama will always be my favorite one and that is why I am still pursuing acting. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I grew up playing basketball. Recently I have started kickboxing, which I really like! More frequently, I enjoy playing tennis and volleyball for fun. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My childhood best friend, Sarah Boignan. I believe that childhood is one of the biggest parts of someone’s life simply because we’re making memories for the first time, we get to feel some deeper emotions for the first time and we learn lessons every day because there is just so much that we don’t know yet. She is still my best friend even if we have a long-distance relationship. We saw each other grow up and fell in love with music together. She is family to me and she’s given me some of the best advice and support in my life. She’s also a very talented artist and has always been very inspiring to me. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? How fearless I have become. I grew up being pretty insecure and not being fully ready to take risks. Now I can say that I have lived and traveled by myself in many different countries, that I have made so many friends and connections all over these cities. I’m also pursuing my acting and dancing dreams and I have no doubt that the best is still yet to come. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? It sometimes scares people how spontaneous I am. I really do enjoy having no plans because then life is just full of surprises and I get super excited by that lifestyle. Some might call it crazy, I call it fierce. For example, this year I had no plans to travel because of the pandemic and I ended up catching at least 8 flights in 2021… Let’s just say last minute plans are my specialty. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? I want to be a working actress and a role model for young women. I keep training and taking every single opportunity that can make me get closer to that goal. I am planning on getting more involved in community projects and working harder on becoming the best version of myself. MUC was definitely one of the goals I had for this year to be able to empower women and proudly represent them. What would be your “dream job” in life? Traveling, educating, and acting! Being on set every day but then being able to use the exposure to inspire young women to pursue their dreams and encourage people to give back to the community and help redistribute wealth. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was raised in Quebec City in a family of four kids. We grew up in this beautiful small town, went to a small Christian school and had pretty strict parents. They taught me the importance of treating people with respect and that there’s always a wrong and a right thing to do. My dad is an immigrant and was very protective and hard working to provide for us. He has always been skeptical about my dreams, which I can understand, but all I want today is to make him proud. I knew from a very young age that performing arts was what I wanted to do. I remember being 10 years old, watching TV and telling myself that one day, it would be me. My mother shares the same passion as me and has always been very supportive and I feel very lucky for that. Having one brother and two sisters, we fought a lot, just like siblings do, but the love we all have for each other remains powerful. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. I have worked for Club Med for 3 years. Basically, it is an all-inclusive resort and being a G.O. is when you’re an employee who lives on-site, works 6 days a week and spends a very big amount of time with guests. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I met people from all around the world, learned about new cultures, danced in shows at night and worked hard during the day. I felt like it was more of a lifestyle than a job and I think that is what made it so special. What is your most unusual talent? I am strangely very good at arcade games. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Turks & Caicos! Magical island with the most beautiful water. People over there have such a comforting and warm energy to them, it will forever be my happy place. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? Inspiring young women to pursue their dreams, starting my own children’s charity organization, helping the homeless communities in Canada and having a lead role in a movie! Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I would like to add that competing for the title of Miss Universe Canada is an honor and that if given the opportunity to win, I will use my voice, social media and exposure to empower women, to encourage self-love, self-care and bring more awareness to world issues. It is critical that after these years of worldwide pandemic and seeing so much social injustice happen, we spread more positivity and help the ones that are the most in need. |

| madison kvaltin Height: 5’7 Hometown: Sudbury, ON Languages: English Occupation: Entrepreneur Madison is a woman of passion and adventure. She aims to be a positive and vibrant light in any room. Madison was born in a small town in Northern Ontario, but she always knew she was meant for bigger than that. She is travel and adventure driven as travel is a massive way to become educated, cultured, and develop an understanding of difference. After graduating from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Honours in Sociology and Business, Madison used her skills to elevate the business side of 911. Being a part of the front lines pushed Madison to use her business skills to continue her positive impact on the world. After leaving her corporate job she created Skilla Athletics a body confident athletic brand and a website design company to pursue her entrepreneurial spirit. Madison now actively promotes her platform of body confidence and fueling our bodies with movement to the masses, through her business and other social means. Madison is a massive believer that beauty fades, but the impact you make on the world can last a lifetime. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I am massively passionate about body confidence and fueling your body with movement; including sports (cross country, volleyball, soccer, football, skating, dance), boxing, pilates, yoga & so much more! I love branding and design, as this is a key role in my Website Design and Social Media Management Company. I love art & anything DIY. But most importantly I love giving back; whether it is giving workshops and seminars on Body confidence, blood drives, charity work, & so much more. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I’m a homemade art-driven person but have never received special training. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I love doing any and all sports!! As a child I competed competitively in Swimming; but continued to explore different sports in High School and College for fun, including Dance, Track (Hurdles), cross country running, football, soccer, boxing & so on! Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? One of the most impactful women in my life would have to be Cheryl Kozera. The Pageant Director for Miss North Ontario. Cheryl has empowered hundreds of women to find their voice within the world of pageantry. I don’t think I’d be the same strong, empowered, and change-driven woman I am today if it wasn’t for her. She believes that looks fade, but the impression and impact you make on the world is priceless. She inspired me to pursue my dreams and push my platform farther than I could have ever imagined. Cheryl has empowered me, to want to empower other young women to become the best version of themselves, to build a better future. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest personal accomplishment has to be the pursuit of my business Skilla Athletics. Skilla is a brand rooted in exposing the exercise realm and promoting the use of exercise for its holistic benefits beyond changing them to fit societal norms. With this brand, we are promoting body confidence and body acceptance, and the use of movement to celebrate our bodies. As of right now, I am actively teaching all bodies, regardless of shape, size, colour, age, etc., on how to build body confidence and provide our bodies with the fuel it needs! What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I think an interesting thing about me is when I was in Australia I tripped and fell while bartending abroad and fractured my elbow; requiring surgery and a screw in my elbow. For the last few months of my student exchange in Australia, I had a robot arm cast to help me relearn how to use my arm. This was super challenging for me as I went from being in the gym every day and playing a bunch of sports, to having to relearn the basics of moving my elbow, using my fingers, carrying and lifting things. To this day, I’m still trying to relearn how to do a pull up because of the pressure and angle of the screw in my arm. Isn’t it humorous, I broke my humerus, slipping on a non-slip mat! What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My Career ambition is to build a series of passive streams of income to create a life of financial freedom, and freedom to give back (in both time and money). At the moment I own two companies, an Athletic Company and a Website design/Social Media Management company. I’m in the process of saving my money to purchase my first Airbnb, with a goal of owning an Airbnb in a majority of major cities around the world. I also plan on completing my Real Estate and Brokers license to build and operate a real estate brokerage, helping others with their Airbnb and investment properties. Right now, I’m focusing on building out my two companies to run on autopilot, then I will transition to the next goal. For me I do not have 1 career goal, my goal Is a diversified portfolio, continuing to challenge myself and try new things! This will then allow me to focus on spreading my message of body confidence and celebration of our bodies at all stages of life. What would be your “dream job” in life? Honestly, I would love to be able to travel the world and be paid to do so. In those travels, I would continue to learn, educate and volunteer; in addition to promoting fitness and my platform of celebrating our bodies with movement. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I grew up in a small town in Northern Ontario. Most of my days were outside playing road hockey on the streets, jumping in the mud and spending time with my family! Although my parents divorced when I was 16, I learned the true meaning of love and how we should never settle for less than what we deserve. My childhood of sports fueled my competitive and athletic spirit! I’m constantly trying new sports and continuing to challenge myself. Growing up in a small town, made me realize I was made for bigger and better things. I never really fit in, I was super driven and determined to make a life of adventure and travel. Although I love and appreciate my small-town roots, I’m more excited to continue to travel, educate myself, and become a worldly woman! List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. Throughout college I worked in the hospitality industry; from pubs to fine dining, I even worked on a dinner cruise boat! I absolutely loved working in hospitality as it taught me so much patience and unwarranted kindness. You truly never know what is going on in someone else’s life, so it’s incredibly important to lead with kindness. Even as simple as wishing someone a beautiful day, or complementing someone outfit, or a smile can dramatically improve someone’s day, if not perspective. List any volunteering you have done. I’ve been volunteering my whole life. My biggest push at the moment is workshops and seminars on body confidence and celebrating bodies with movement. But additional volunteering I’ve worked on/with includes: - Women’s Mud Run
- Special Olympics
- Blood drives/organizing donations at 911 (Sirens for Life)
- Canadian Cancer Society events (walks/runs, donation events, canvasing, etc).
- B3 – Women’s Empowerment Group (Sudbury)
- & more!
I’m always looking to give back, because empowering others (especially young women) is one of the greatest ways to build a better future. What is your most unusual talent? I think my most unusual talent would have to be Henna art. In high school and college, I took my artistic talents to skin. I love geometric and floral designs, beautifying the skin. Henna art is highly cultural & symbolic, so to avoid cultural appropriation of the artform I took it upon myself to educate myself on the history of Henna. With that, I engage in Henna art because of my love and respect for the history and beauty behind Henna. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? In college, I got the opportunity to go on a student exchange to Canberra, Australia. This was only my second overseas trip and my longest (this one lasted 5 months). Australia to this day is one of my favourite countries in the world. Not only is the nature and environment a sunshine lovers dream, but the people are incredibly kind and environmentally forward. Much like Canada, Australia is a peace forward country that emphasizes their multicultural base. Australia was my first time travelling to a foreign country all on my own. It allowed me to develop my independence and love for exploring new cultures and history, and because of that it is still my favourite country I’ve visited. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years, I hope to have my businesses flourishing and developing my real estate brokerage and Airbnb business. With that, my business accomplishments will have landed me on Forbes 30 under 30. I dream to build several streams of income that allow me to continue to travel, educate and grow. I see a life filled with travel, living in new countries every couple years to never stop growing and learning. I will have completed an Iron Man, and continue to challenge my physical health as I grow. Additionally, I will have completed a TED Talk on Body Confidence and celebrating our bodies with movement. And so much more!! Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? Pageantry has taught me how powerful, resilient, and driven I am to make positive change in the world. Pageantry has taught me to use my voice, speak up and make change to better the world tomorrow. I want to help inspire other young women to speak up, use their power to create meaningful and positive change. Regardless of the results I am going to keep pushing for positive change in this world. I am actively working on my platform within my community and through my small business, promoting the celebration of our bodies through mindful movement. My motivations and passions for change do not end with this pageant, I am driven to continue to make changes for the better. |

| maneet khera Height: 5’6 Hometown: Calgary, AB Languages: English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu Occupation: Actress, Model, Screening Officer Being a second-generation Canadian and born into an immigrant family Maneet has always appreciated the hard work her parents did to give her the fulfilling life she has today as an educated, empowered, independent woman. Growing up her parents always emphasized the importance of education and autonomy as she watched them work labour class jobs, and struggle to build a future for their children. Her family has always been a pillar of support in regards to all her dreams; cheering her on every step of the way. Today, Maneet is nearing the completion of her master’s degree and on the path to becoming a registered psychologist. She has worked for the government of Canada, challenged herself in a male-dominated field of law enforcement alongside also pursuing her ambition for modeling and acting. Further, she also has experience working as a screening officer at the Calgary International airport, vigilantly protecting Canada and traveler’s through air security. All this was done while balancing and excelling in her education along the side. During her undergraduate studies, Maneet received 3 scholarships and graduated on the Dean’s honour roll. Through persistence, goal setting and discipline she was able to achieve all that was once a dream. She hopes to continue to inspire all young girls, and girls of visible minorities to chase their dreams and shatter all glass ceilings. Maneet has always loved performing on stage and recalls her youngest memories of herself from grade 2 where she performed a Bollywood dance in front of the entire elementary school fearlessly. Maneet also competed in ‘Miss India Worldwide Canada 2016’ where she placed first runner up, won ‘Miss Congeniality’ and ‘Miss Best Talent’ for her live monologue performance. Maneet is known to have starred in multiple music videos including ‘Bootcut’ which crossed over 47 million views on Youtube. She also recently played the lead role in a feature film titled Purple Kisses, which was nominated for awards in 11 different film festivals. The film highlighted the silent struggles of a woman in an abusive relationship. Maneet hopes to continue to work in films and projects that voices various causes and issues in society surrounding women; as Maneet is a strong advocate for women’s/gender diversity rights and empowerment. Volunteering in the community has always been a significant part of her life and is what makes her thrive. Maneet has spent 2 years supporting individuals in crisis at the distress centre. The importance of mental health and wellbeing have always been of great importance to her as she witnessed various people in her life struggle with trauma and depression. With her educational background in psychology, Maneet continues to emphasize the importance of taking care of our mental health as much as we take care of our physical health. Along with having open discussions about mental health and therefore, fighting the stigma. In line with the following quote, “Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world.” She feels the key is to educate youth at a younger age on mental health literacy and promoting effective healthy coping mechanisms with evidence-based approaches. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? People who know me, know that I am always up for new experiences. I am a curious person, always learning new skills and developing new interests. I recently joined studio boxing as a part of my active lifestyle. I have also been improving my hand-eye coordination and strength while learning clay shooting at the range. Some of the other things you might catch me doing in my free time include stargazing on a warm summer night. I’ve been lucky to sight shooting stars at least once in the year. I also enjoy hiking to challenge myself but to more so to immerse myself into nature. There is beauty all around us, we just need to pause, be present and see. How often have you just sat to look at the colours of the sunset after your busy day? Self-care time is also one of the most enjoyable for me. I like to make sure I have activities allotted as ‘me time’ through my week. I like to do hatha yoga, dance, reflective journaling, reading self-help books, working out and guided meditations. Interestingly, I record meditations and affirmations in my own voice because I feel it helps me connect to myself even more—I’ve also been told I have a soothing voice and should sell my recordings. Most of all, I enjoy going on walks and spending time with my little Yorkshire terrier Niko. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Fine arts were always my favourite subjects in school. I like to say I was born a performer and never feared being on stage. One of my youngest memories is of me performing a Bollywood dance in front of 500 people at the age of 7. I also took ballet as a child, then went on to take dance classes all throughout high school, which included hip hop, jazz, African, belly dancing, and Bollywood. In my final year, I became a dance captain for the class. I have also taken Bhangra classes, a traditional folk dance of Punjab. This has always been special to me as it is a part of my cultural background. I was lucky to go to an elementary and middle school that offered drama classes. I continued to take drama and professional development in the arts in high school which grew my passion into professional acting. I also partook in choir for 2 years, although now I like to call myself a bathroom singer. In what sports, if any, have you participated? Growing up I was involved in a variety of sports and hobbies, including swimming and Taekwondo. However, I always had a particular interest in basketball. I no longer play, but I’m a huge NBA fan and am always watching the games. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My grandmother has had a significant influence on my life. She was always known as the woman who was not afraid to speak what was on her mind. I watched her always stay true to her values and speak her truth; she was never intimidated by the person standing in front of her. From her, I learned the courage to be uniquely myself and use the power of my voice. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest moment was when I was the first individual in my family to work a job for the Canadian Government. Especially being born into an immigrant family, I remember the happiness on my parent’s faces knowing that they were able to provide their children with the better life they had always dreamed of. I also felt immense pride working for our country. Another proud accomplishment is challenging myself successfully through an intensive law enforcement selection process which is known to be a male-dominated field. People often look at me and say no way! But behind the glamourous side and modeling pictures, stands a determined intellectual woman. Likewise, I want other girls to know that they are capable of doing anything they put their mind to as long as they stay dedicated and perseverant through all potential setbacks, you are more than just your appearance or ‘gender role’. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? One of the most interesting things that happened to me is that I starred in an Indian music video that crossed over 47 Million views on Youtube…not a lot of people can say that! What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My overall goal is to finish my registration as a psychologist and use my educational background and knowledge to continue to advocate for mental health awareness as well as women’s empowerment. I am currently in the final year of my education, and just a few milestones away from this goal. What would be your “dream job” in life? When I hear dream job, I think Miss Universe Canada and bringing another Universe crown to our country. Other than that, my dream job would be to be a social media influencer, along with a professional actor. Not only would I be a part of the fashion/beauty industry, but I would also have a larger platform where I could continue to positively influence people and causes that I believe in such as women empowerment and mental health advocacy. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born and raised in Toronto until the age of 10, when my family decided to make the big move to Calgary, Alberta all the way across the country. This was a large shift in my life as many of my cousins and friends lived in Ontario. However, I remember being excited more than anything for what was to come. From the big move, I learned at an early age the ability to adapt to any changes that could come about in life. My parents had immigrated to Canada from India, and did not know much about how things worked around the city since most knowledge was spread through word of mouth at the time and not social media. Regardless, they always ensured I was able to have a fulfilling my childhood. My mom put me into extracurricular activities that I enjoyed, such as ballet and swimming. My family always supported my interests and encouraged me to do the things I loved including performing arts in school and professionally. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. One of the most interesting type of work I have done is being a volunteer in the hospital, although it wasn’t a paid job it is the most memorable. Here, I got to experience life and death on a daily basis, some people leaving happily with their newborn babies, and others in grief after losing a loved one. There’s one shift I remember in particular that left an impact on me. A family had been rushing to the hospital to come see their sick, dying father. But by the time we assisted them to the room, they had missed him by just a few minutes. I can never forget the silence that filled that room. Sometimes we put things on hold and take others for granted but time is one of the most valuable things we have. This experience was a constant reminder that life is short and precious. Live life to the fullest always and chase your dreams, because who knows what tomorrow, or even the next minute has in store. List any volunteering you have done. - Distress Centre -Crisis Phone Lines
- Alberta Health Services – Wayfinding and Emergency Department
- Reading Buddies
- Heart to Heart Youth Mentoring
- Drop in Centre
- Mustard Seed
What is your most unusual talent? I can wiggle one ear, yes you read that right… just one ear. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? I have not travelled to many countries, although I have a lot of places on my ever-so-long bucket list and can’t wait to go to in the future. For now, the most interesting place has been India, as that is where my parents were born and raised. It was an enlightening experience seeing the lifestyle and culture firsthand there. The street food, the shopping, the warm welcoming people, I loved every bit of it. I think it’s important to stay connected to your roots and culture at heart. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? 10 years is a long time, and I have many goals for myself that continue to evolve as time goes on. As for now, I imagine myself running my practice as a psychologist working with young women, helping them find their power and resilience. I also aspire to have worked in a few films, and travelled to various countries. I picture myself married. I absolutely love children and can’t wait to have a family of my own one day. Most of all, I hope to be content in every aspect of my life with whatever I have achieved. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? To all the girls reading this: everything happens twice, once in our dreams and once in reality. I was just like you, until one day I decided to take charge of my life and do the things that fulfilled me. The time is now. An empowered woman encouraged me to take the first step, so today I encourage you. Is there something you’ve dreamt of doing but been afraid of? Step out of your comfort zone, there’s only growth from here on. As a Miss Universe Canada, I’d like to continue to pass this ray of hope to every girl to know that she too can shatter glass ceilings just as all of us continue to. |

| marguerite dieunie kilama Height: 5’10 Hometown: Laval, QC Languages: English, French Occupation: Entrepreneur Marguerite Dieunie Kilama was born in Cameroon and is now a proud Canadian Citizen living in Montreal. Early on she developed a strong sense of leadership, she always worked hard to position herself at the top grades since primary school. As a passionate of beauty, she did modeling part-time during her university years which led her into obtaining a forefront role in the movie “Les Arts de la Parole” from Olivier Godin that was shown in cinemas throughout Quebec. She played the role of the main character’s girlfriend without having any previous experience in acting. In 2015 she was 21 when she graduated from a Bachelor of Business Administration specialization Accounting at the University of HEC Montreal. After having worked a few years in the corporate world for multinational companies, she decided to take a leap of faith and pursue her dream of becoming an entrepreneur in the beauty industry. Self-taught, versatile and multitasking, she is now a full-time proud owner of a beauty company. In 2017 she was crowned Miss Cameroon Canada and she accomplished her project which consisted of donating medical equipment to hospitals and clothing for children in rural areas of Cameroon. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? Self-development, Meditation, Fashion and Beauty. I enjoy taking care of myself both physically, mentally and spiritually in order to become the best version of myself and have a positive impact on others. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Catwalk training for modeling. In what sports, if any, have you participated? None just fitness to keep my shape Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My elder sister. She is just 4 years older than me, but she played a big role into becoming the person I am today. My parents still live in Cameroon, so she took care of me when I arrived in Canada at 17. She paid for my university tuition fees, rent and everything until I was able to become financially independent. She helped me to build a strong mindset and I will be forever grateful to her. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? Building my own company from scratch all by myself. I had to learn a lot of skills in order to achieve it, such as: website design, products photography, promotional videos editing, marketing strategy, products design and so much more. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? The most interesting thing that ever happened to me was at 18. Arriving in Canada as a foreign student at 17, my tuition fees were very expensive about 16000$ per year. My parents sacrificed anything they had in order to afford it. I also knew that the Cameroonian Government had previously opened a tuition waiver scholarship program to help reduce those fees to 2000$ per session but it had been closed for at least 2 years before my arrival, nobody knew if this program will reopen one day. And it was very difficult to get this scholarship. You had to have the best grades and only few spots were available per university. My sister got it for Polytechnic, but she had to ask it 2 times before getting it. Considering the difficult financial situation of my parents, I knew that I had to get this scholarship if I wanted to finish my studies. So, since the day I arrived in Canada I prayed every single day for this scholarship program to reopen, I checked the official website all the time and I did my best at university to keep my grades as high as possible. Luckily about 8 months after my arrival they reopened the program. My GPA for the first 2 sessions was 4.1/4.3 I immediately applied, and I got it on the first try. I was the only one in the Bachelor’s program at the university of HEC Montreal to receive it that year. It was such a dream. It allowed my elder sister to be able to pay for my tuition fees from that time. Not having it, I would have not been able to complete university. Nor become the person I am today. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? Besides entrepreneurship which I absolutely love and want to continue to do, I want to pursue a movie acting career and be featured in Hollywood big production films. I already got a role in a Quebec film “Les Arts de la Parole” de Olivier Godin without having any previous acting experience. In order to accomplish this goal, I am putting myself out there, participating in this competition which can possibly lead me to where I want to go. I will also take appropriate acting classes. What would be your “dream job” in life? I am grateful to be currently doing my dream job as an entrepreneur in the beauty industry. I started by selling hair products, I continued with clothing and now I am expanding into cosmetics after having taken cosmetology classes in an academy in 2020. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was born and raised in Cameroon. My parents are very strict. We were not allowed to play outside with kids in the neighborhood. So, the routine was going to school and getting back home. They put an emphasis on sending us to the best schools possible and they always encouraged me to do my best. Early on, they noticed my intellectual abilities, I started talking at 9 months and I have always been a fast learner. Thus, they pushed me to always rank 1st at school, always be the best and having excellent grades. And I love it! Excellence is what drives me the most. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. My first ever job in Canada at 18 was in a coffee shop. I only worked there for 2 weeks because I quickly realized that the owner hired me for the wrong reasons. He started to hit on me, and I did not like it. I decided to quit. But it was difficult to find a job considering the fact that I had no previous experience of work from Cameroon. Then my mom told me that she knew people who worked in farm fields, it was easy to get a job but a very difficult task to do. I preferred this option and I applied because I was never afraid to start small and build my way up to the top with dignity. I worked in cornfields for the whole summer. List any volunteering you have done. As Miss Cameroon Canada 2017 I was involved in multiple volunteering activities such as: - Be the spokesperson for the fundraising campaign “Urgence Cameroun” organized by the association “L’oeuvre Léger” to help rebuild areas devastated by Boko Haram in the northern region of Cameroon. We were able to collect 30 000$. Here is the video of the campaign: https://youtu.be/0X-kH_CAfC4
- Donate medicines and clothing in rural areas of Cameroon in 2018 with the help of the association G12 from Canada: https://youtu.be/DStRVkL53Ek
- Donate food supplies in orphanages, school supplies in public schools and medicines in hospitals in Cameroon in 2019: https://youtu.be/7_VfLU581GM?t=98
- Bringing food to homeless people with the help of the company “Les trempettes à barrette” in Montreal.
What is your most unusual talent? I used to play the flute when I was little. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Villages in Cameroon in 2018 when I brought medicines and clothing as a part of my project as Miss Cameroon Canada. It was such an amazing experience, to see people living happily with very little. It made me realized that happiness is in the very little things in life. It can only be found from within, cherishing moments with loved ones, it is not about material things. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? Happy wife and mom with the products of my brand selling worldwide at a higher level. Involved in the real estate industry. And be featured in Hollywood movies. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? People think that I come from a rich family, but my parents sacrificed themselves in order to give us the best chances in life by sending me and my siblings to Canada. I have good morals and keeping my dignity as a woman is very important to me. Everything I have, I worked for it with honesty and integrity. I want to be an inspiration for people to go after their dreams no matter what and to not be afraid to start small and work their way up to the top with dignity. Thank you |

| maria becerra Height: 5’6 Hometown: Edmonton, AB Languages: English Occupation: Canada Regional Lead—Data Validation Specialist for Translational Research in Oncology Maria Becerra was born in Colombia, immigrated to Canada at 10 years old and a proud Canadian citizen. She graduated with honors from University of Toronto with a Bachelors of Health Science. She attended Medical school in Bogota, Colombia and one day hopes to continue and finish her studies to become a doctor. She is currently working in translational research in oncology as a regional lead manager in data validation specialist for a breast cancer clinical trial. Maria loves the world of fashion and she loves to be informed about scientific developments, so she combined these two passions and is currently working on creating her health care uniform company to create innovative and antimicrobial scrubs for healthcare workers to feel clean and safe while they are busy saving lives. Maria loves animals, has 3 rescue Chihuahuas and loves to enjoy the outdoors on hikes with her dogs in the beautiful mountains and lakes of Alberta and BC. She hopes to open a shelter to rescue animals in the future and find them loving homes. Resilience and empathy are Maria’s words of strength as she has learned from a very young age to learn from mistakes and get up and try again in her journey of learning English. She realized that mistakes are the stepping stones to getting it right and that human errors are part of growth. She learned empathy after several moments in her life when she felt alone, she has moved homes, cities, schools and even countries serval times in her life and has had to start from scratch. Maria is an advocate for mental health and believes in the importance of the balance of mind, body and spirit. Through her own experiences of depression, anxiety and eating disorders she hopes to spread the word of how she overcame these struggles to live a balanced lifestyle. Maria wants to represent a real woman that makes mistakes, learns from them, has difficult times, cries when needed but then adjusts her crown and gets back up to try again. She has worked hard in her profession to be in a managerial position and continues to strive to educate herself and give back to the community. Maria is blessed to call Canada her home and is an example of the many immigrant women that accomplish their dreams in the land that is home to all. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I am a firm believer in a balanced lifestyle and I enjoy doing things that nurture my soul, mind, body and spirit. I enjoy travelling and visiting new places to expand my mindset, learn about new cultures and learn about myself. During the pandemic, I had the opportunity to explore Canada from coast to coast travelling by car and exploring the uniqueness of different provinces and the breathtaking scenery of the Canadian landscapes. Hiking in nature and visiting the beautiful national parks of Canada is where I feel most at peace and energized. I love animals and I have 3 small Chihuahuas that are very special to me so I enjoy spending quality time with them as well as with my boyfriend and friends. In my free time, I love to paint and try different techniques in abstract art as well as watching shows and reading books of personal self development. In addition, exercising my body is a great passion of mine as it helps me relieve anxiety and stress and feel my best. You can find me after work either on my peloton bike at home during the winter or running outside as soon as the snow melts or creating my personal routines at the gym. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I am certified in CPR and First aid as well as Investigational research and Good Clinical Practice. I have expanded my knowledge in supervisory roles and management through the University of Alberta and further took a conscious leadership program by whitefox leadership where it gave me great tools to become a successful leader. In preparation for Miss Universe Canada, I have been trained in runway modeling by Luis Arguinzones, trainer of Miss Universe Colombia beauty queens in Bogota, Colombia. I have learned proper technique and elegance in walking at a Miss Universe stage. In addition, I am continuing to develop my music skills through instruments like the violin and learning to play the piano. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I have always loved to run, it has always been a great passion of mine and all throughout my life I have participated in track and field, cross country and ran a few marathons for charities or for fun in my own time. In addition, I like to play tennis, badminton, learning to golf, as well as other activities like swimming, indoor rock climbing and skiing. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? My grandpa was one of the most special and influential people in my life. He made me believe I could be and do anything I dreamed of and he is the reason I am so confident in myself today. My grandpa took care of me from birth until I was 5 years old and when I think of my childhood he always comes to mind. He would sing with me, put me on top of the table at a family gathering and encouraged me to model and dance. He was my cheerleader and both my mother and father figure when my dad was away for months on cruise ships working and my mom had a lot of hospital shifts. My grandpa was part of the most important years of my childhood and the moment he passed away is forever engraved in my mind. Not because it was tragic, but because I had the honour of spending the last moments of his life with him. It was unexpected, we got in the car and he was struggling to start it, I was on the passenger seat as I always got in before my grandma moved me to the child seat. I noticed he was getting red and then purple and the car was sounding really loud. I right away held his hand and gave him a hug told him I loved him and to rest. My mother 9 months pregnant and my grandma came out after the loud noise of the car and my mom immediately began CPR on him all the meanwhile I held his hand. I knew and felt he was gone. The neighbor took me into their home while they called the ambulance and took him to the hospital but he was pronounced dead at arrival. This moment taught me to always cherish important people in your life, tell them you love them because it could be the last time. I know he’s always watching over me and my favourite thing in the world are sunsets because they make me feel like he did, beautiful and magical. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? I always try to celebrate the small victories in my life and recognize that the habits I do today will shape me into the person I become tomorrow. When I arrived in Canada at 10 years old I would cry every day because I did not speak English nor have any friends and left what I knew as home behind. It took great courage for me to put myself out there, say the wrong things, make mistakes and build trust in myself to adapt to my new home in Canada. This was an experience that definitely shaped who I am today because I overcame the fears of being shy and caring what others thought of me because I learned that every mistake that I made just meant one step closer of getting it right. I believe that this experience led to a lot of self-growth because it taught me to be empathetic, try new things, be kind, and have a lot of resilience. Today I can say that thanks to the days I felt sad and alone and trials and errors to better myself I was able to be part of many leadership projects. I learned that if I could help it, I did not want any kid to feel as alone as I once did. In grade 8 I was selected for valedictorian in my elementary school, then became president in my high school, selected to participate in Canadian student leadership conferences, participated as an orientation leader at UofT, advocated for mental health and currently, I am proud to say I am the youngest Canadian lead of a clinical trial in oncology. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I have moved homes/cities/even countries every 2 years of my life! What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? I want to continue working in oncology research and expand my career path as a clinical research professional and continue contributing to the development of cures and treatments for cancer. I plan on getting certified by writing the examinations and acquiring further experience. I would also love to continue my career in medicine and specialize in oncology. In addition, I want to have my own healthcare uniform company with specialized studied scientific fabric textiles made nanoparticles that make it antimicrobial and odorless. After the pandemic with Covid-19, I want to introduce innovative technology for health care workers to feel safe and comfortable working long hours of the day and reduce the spread of virus and bacteria that can also be spread through fabrics. I am currently in the development of my company and hope to open to the market by 2024. Furthermore, I hope to work for non-profit organizations and open a shelter to rescue animals that are abandoned, mistreated and abused. My dogs have completely changed my life for the better and bring so much joy to me. I want to help people find the same happiness and relocate the abandoned animals in loving homes. I hope to win the title of Miss Universe Canada and develop further charity projects to support newcomer immigrants of Ukraine and welcome them into our country as well as many others. What would be your “dream job” in life? My dream job in life would be to have a meaningful impact in society and at the same time have time flexibility and ownership of my work schedule. I believe I can achieve this through my future company and build it to the point that I can oversee it without having to work in the office 9-5pm. Furthermore, I love the movie industry I would love to act in a great Hollywood film! Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was raised by my mom and dad and I have a younger brother. My family arrived in Canada in February 2005, a very cold winter and we were not prepared for what it was like. We would take the bus to the grocery store and each carry a bag of groceries and many times either my brother or I would fall or the bag would break crossing the street and the tomatoes would go flying on the road or drop the basket of eggs! Then it became a game for us to make each other drop things and of course, our parents were definitely not happy! With nothing but the clothes in our luggage we began making a new life in Canada and that meant being very frugal, lots of sacrifices and hard work. I shopped at second-hand stores for clothes meanwhile my classmates wore the latest brands of clothes but nonetheless you could never tell me I was not in style. I learned to thrift and make my own outfits fashionable with whatever clothes I had. My parents had to learn English and my mother certified her career as a Respiratory Therapist and has now been working in her field of work for a couple of years after having to re-study her entire career again after 10 years of experience in her field in our home country. My father worked and cared for the home while my mother was off to school and my brother was my best friend growing up. I was always very protective of him because I would see how at just 5 years old he would bite his bottom lips of frustration until they bled and pee his pants because he did not know how to ask to go to the bathroom in English. My family has always been very hardworking and my mother was always by our side ensuring we did our homework and studied so we could get into University and have a great career. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. I have worked since I was 14 years old and my first job was delivering newspapers around my neighbourhood. Then I worked around 5 years in different retail stores at the mall then had a job working for blinds and curtains. One of the most interesting jobs I did for a bit was working at an immigration office where I learned all the processes of different new comers into Canada. I was fascinated by this because I learned the laws and process of immigration of Canada and it gave me great satisfaction to help people call Canada their new home. List any volunteering you have done. I started volunteering when I arrived to Canada at 10 years old at the Ukrainian Canadian Care center at St. Demetrius that was right in front of my house. My family and I had the privilege of volunteering for 7 years and we received an award in recognition of our leadership and support. The Ukrainian community in my area made us feel like family and helped us build friendships, develop our English skills and have activities to do on the weekends when we did not know anyone else in our new Canadian home. I am very honored to give back to the Ukrainian community once again during this crisis and spread awareness of the current situation. I participated and organized many fund raising events being president of my high school including relay for life for cancer society, operation Christmas child, best buddies program as well as many others. Furthermore, I received the Harold Albercht Leadership award on behalf of the government of Canada for my volunteering efforts in my community. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? I love nature and outdoors, I would say the most interesting place I’ve been to is Drumheller, Alberta as it is the dinosaur capital of the world! How interesting is it to see fossils from the largest beings that once roamed earth?! It is an amazing, fulfilling experience that makes you realize how tiny we are in this massive universe. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In 10 years, I hope to be happily married to the love of my life with two children and my dogs. I hope to have my company running without my direct supervision being very successful and being the #1 scrubs company in Canada. I hope to travel to as many countries in the world and keep exploring different cultures. I hope that I can rescue and find homes for many animals and adopt a few more myself. |

| mattea henderson Height: 5’7 Hometown: Calgary, AB Languages: English Occupation: Strategic Consultant, Content Marketing & PR Coordinator Mattea Henderson is a 27-year-old, 5th Generation Canadian who was born in Markham, Ontario. In the last few years, she has moved between Vancouver, Victoria and Calgary as an entrepreneur. Attending the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University, Mattea graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, concentrated in Marketing and International Business. Mattea is fortunate to have an incredible, active family to encourage her love for sports and the arts. Growing up she was actively involved in competitive swimming, skiing, and soccer which taught her the importance of teamwork, resiliency and building relationships. Mattea is still an active runner and is training towards running a half-marathon. Additionally, Mattea was fortunate to be accepted to a prestigious fine arts high school for painting and sketching, a passion she has found to be easily transferred to her professional career as a strategic consultant. Mattea found that professionally she could tie her artistic passion into her professional career as a Marketer and storyteller. In 2020 Mattea successfully launched her Strategic Consultant Agency in Western Canada to provide creative solutions to her clients during COVID-19. As part of her love of small ethical businesses and her Bachelor of Business Administration, Mattea created The Ultimate Canadian Covid Christmas List, a month-long campaign to highlight incredible Canadian companies that Canadians did support during the Holiday season. As a Strategic Consultant, Mattea experiences utilizing her hands-on client work demonstrating leadership through extensive communication styles with global teams, allowing multiple companies to succeed in a variety of industries including fintech, cryptocurrencies, cosmetics, art and insurance. With aspirations to become a Public Relations Maven, Mattea continues to creatively incorporate social responsibility and community building initiatives with all clients she works with. Mattea has had the opportunity to represent Canada in multiple international pageants including Miss Intercontinental 2017 and Miss Earth 2019, each one exposing her to a variety of cultures and people. Her passion for pageants truly stems from the opportunity to build relationships with strong women across the globe, in addition to allowing her to spread awareness to causes dear to her. Mattea has used every opportunity to utilize her platform advocating for brain injury awareness, and most recently Autism and Asperger stereotypes in society. Inspired daily by her Autistic and Asperger partner, Mattea works to enlighten society around the stigmas and stereotypes that surround people on the spectrum. Mattea is creating an organization that provides strategies and professionals to create programs and resources for these individuals knowing how incredible their solutions are to solving unique problems in society. Mattea believes that her purpose in life is to help people to find their passions and love of life in all that they do. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? I have always loved trying new things, but I fell in love with being competitive, pushing my limits in sports and art. Sports is what really sparked my competitiveness, starting as young as three in Timbits Soccer, to volleyball, skiing and most recently working towards running a half-marathon. A large part of my competitiveness is seeing an end result. I found what is really satisfying in photography, painting, and sketching is being able to take nothing and turn it into something, like a blank canvas. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) Some of my earliest memories were painting or sketching. The older I got the more interest I had in the arts, which include painting, sculpting, and drawing classes, along with learning to play the flute and the classic guitar. In 2019, I started working with an organization that brought awareness to human and sex trafficking of children in Canada. I was trained and certified as an on-site facilitator to speak on abuse awareness and prevention, reporting & response, health & safety of these kids, disabilities initiatives, child protection procedures, and social issues and communications because of the potentially sensitive environments that I was immersed in. Additionally, I have received training in e-commerce catalogue posing, commercial modelling, acting, public speaking, media, and interview training. All these skills have been extremely useful in marketing and public relations to be able to participate on and off camera speaking comfortably and confidently around difficult and international topics. In what sports, if any, have you participated? My favourite sports are endurance sports, ones that involve a lot of running. Starting soccer at three, I played every position up until I was 16. I didn’t have the best footwork skills, but my coaches loved my natural ability to run. After graduating high school, I found a new passion of daily running anything from 5-10KM. I also participated in volleyball, swimming, skating, skiing, track and field, cross-country, badminton, and most recently I am exploring yoga. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? Patti Falconer was my first boss, agent, mentor and now my guardian angel. She introduced me to modelling and pageantry, she taught me the importance of self-worth and confidence. What matters most is how you treat others, that an honest first impression and kindness is priceless. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? My proudest personal accomplishment is graduating on the Deans’ List from Mount Royal University with my Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and International Business. Graduating from University was a goal that I set for myself when I was in grade 6, however, a head injury at birth led me to struggle academically in elementary through high school. I knew that this was an accomplishment that would be time-consuming, and adverse when I had teachers and counsellors tell me that it would be best if I didn’t set my standards for myself as high as I did. I developed perseverance, self-awareness and ability to believe in myself, and an unwavering work ethic that not only led to graduating but also launching my own Strategic Consulting Agency less than a year after graduating. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? The most interesting thing about me is that at birth the doctors fractured my skull which altered the way that I perceive information. When I was 19, I was tested at the University of Calgary to properly understand the impacts this head injury has on my life. It gave me clarity of why I did certain things a specific way, after developing and learning multiple strategies in communication and problem-solving. I had to learn to embrace my weaknesses as new challenges and opportunities to grow, and have fostered creativity, a driven worth ethic and understand the importance of adaptability and flexibility. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? Becoming a Public Relations Maven, opening my own firm specializing in crisis management, social responsibility, and reputation rehabilitation is my career ambition. I was thrown into the deep end with my first few clients which taught me how to creatively build meaningful strategies that incorporate social responsibilities programs into their branding strategy. In each company that I work with, we collaboratively build these programs based on the employees’ passions that give back and help build their community and keep their morals and values aligned to the brand. In the holiday season of 2020, I created The Ultimate Canadian Christmas List, a month-long campaign to highlight small and medium Canadian companies. By creating a digital guide during COVID to support local businesses across Canada, Canadians had the opportunity to build their communities by supporting these businesses that normally support and build Canada. What would be your “dream job” in life? The dream job has been Miss Universe since 2010. Having a decade of experiences, including lost luggage, missed flights, wardrobe malfunctions but also incredible relationships, placing multiple times, raising over $30,000 in sponsorship, learning how to host events, and representing Canada has made me a formidable competitor on and off stage. Miss Universe Canada is a woman who understands the competition begins before she applies to compete. I have purposefully created multiple unique opportunities to understand the dynamics and create a winning mindset on and off stage. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was raised in Markham, Ontario with my family of 5, 2-golden retrievers close to my Dad’s side of the family in the GTA and Toronto. I attended a dual-track elementary school, learning French and English with my brother and sister. We are three years apart in age and have always been competitive in school and sports, but mainly with each other. I was grateful that my parents never pushed us to compete, but they taught us that whatever we do, we should be proud of the work that we put into it. While I have lived in Vancouver, Victoria, and Calgary for the last 13 years, Markham has a special place in my heart. Whenever I am in the area, I remember the loving, supportive and incredible memories I have with my family especially since we are all living in different parts of Canada now. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. The most interesting job that I have had is working in Cryptocurrency as a Content Marketer and PR Manager. Every day is different because the industry is growing and changing so quickly. One day I could be creating how-to understand Crypto videos, speaking with journalists or looking at how different people’s tweets and comments can alter the market so drastically. Also, working in a company that is in a male-dominated industry has taught me the value of women in the workplace and I will continue to work to bridge the gap between women in tech-based industries. List any volunteering you have done. - Children’s Wish Foundation
- Operation Smile
- Heart and Stroke Foundation
- BRAVE Education for Trafficking Prevention
- SOS Children’s Villages
What is your most unusual talent? My most unusual but also useful talent is being able to memorize the layout of a location or directions after only being in that place once. I visited Athens with my family in 2018 and I was able to navigate the marketplace underneath the Acropolis as if I lived there my entire life. My friends and family are never that surprised anymore when I can recall the layout of their houses from 20 years ago or directions through a city. They think of me as their personalized GPS. Where is the most interesting place you have been to? Luxor is the most interesting place I’ve explored during a month-long stay in Egypt. The first ‘adult’ word I learned to spell in first grade was actually ‘archeologist’. When I was at the Temple of Karnak, or in the markets of Luxor, I couldn’t help but walk around spelling in my head, a-r-c-h-e-o-l-o-g-i-s-t. Seeing such an ancient, preserved portion of the world, sitting in the middle of a developed city center was awe-inspiring. The respect of faith, culture, architecture and tradition of Luxor was evident wherever I looked. I will always feel such respect and connection to the people of Egypt. What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years, I hope to have established myself professionally in marketing and communications and hope to be planning on retiring early. I do dream of starting a family and surrounding myself with friends and family. I plan to continue my work with Autism Awareness, by creating an organization that provides strategies and professionals to families that have Autistic and Asperger children. Looking at people on the spectrum like Hans Christian Andersen, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Emily Dickinson in our world, due to the way that they all think, from their Autism and Asperges, I believe that with the right tools and resources, these individuals would be able to find solutions to our world’s problems. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I believe every opportunity is what you make of it. The decisions you explore, the choices you contemplate and the work you put into it will make you the best version of yourself at that moment. We can do whatever we set our minds to. With passion, confidence and courage I hope to bring forward the best of myself, my experiences, personally and professionally, to the Miss Universe Canada stage, and inspire someone else to follow and work towards their dream. |

| maya ramsahoye Height: 5’9 Hometown: Edmonton, AB Languages: English Occupation: Makeup Artist, Dive Instructor Maya was born and raised in a small town where she developed her sense of adventure and ability to see beyond boundaries to grow personally and accomplish her goals. Maya hopes to inspire others with her story – a journey of unexpected opportunities, incredible experiences, and self-discovery. She loves to travel and has a goal of travelling to every country in the world. She is fascinated by human relationships, and what she values most is honesty, acceptance, determination, and devotion to family. Maya never imagined pageantry would be her niche and place to shine, yet she credits pageantry as the reason for who she is today. She is honoured to have participated in both national and international events, including competing at Miss World Canada 2019, reigning as Miss Global Trinidad and Tobago 2019/2020, and most recently representing Edmonton at Miss Galaxy Canada 2021. Maya feels her most valued traits, best memories, career inspiration and personal successes have resulted from flourishing in the pageant world. These experiences, and the unwavering support from her pageant sisters, family, and valued supporters, are why Maya’s dream of competing at Miss Universe Canada has blossomed into reality. Maya’s passion for the beauty industry has evolved into her career as a model and Bridal and Runway Make-up Artist. At the Edmonton Cosmetology College, Maya is an instructor with the make-up artistry program, effectively combining her two biggest passions of beauty and teaching. Maya says, “working in a teaching setting gives me the opportunity to continue learning, as well as being able to share my knowledge.” She is also the sole proprietor of her freelance makeup artistry business, “Maya Rhianne Beauty Artistry”. Maya continues to cultivate her signature artistry technique, as she believes makeup should enhance, not mask, the inherent beauty of each person. Beyond the beauty industry Maya pairs her love of teaching with another passion for fitness and sports. Maya enjoys a variety of athletic activities, including fitness training, cross country running and figure skating. She was a competitive swimmer for many years, and later trained as a swimming coach/instructor. Maya is currently a swim instructor for a diving program where she teaches fundamental swim skills and improved swimming techniques. She says, “working with youth is refreshing and usually gives you at least one good laugh in your day”. “Perfectly Imperfect” is the name Maya has created for her platform. She believes this description encompasses her work to promote innate personal beauty, as well as beauty that is developed through a healthy body and mind. Maya hopes to inspire others to overcome unrealistic societal and social media expectations by showing that beauty resonates from your personality, charisma, health and natural self. Ready for the Miss Universe Stage, Maya sets out to apply her personality and determination, to inspire others to take risks and reach their goals. What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most? Some of my interests and most favourites are travel, fitness\sports, fashion, outdoors\hiking, make-up artistry, modelling, and of course pageantry. List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.) I have my ‘Grade 6 Conservatory’ in piano and I have played since I was 4 years old. I also play the clarinet and baritone saxophone. In what sports, if any, have you participated? I have done figure skating, synchronized skating, yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do, competitive swimming, indoor and outdoor track and field, cross-country running, and volleyball. Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why? One other person who I refer back to in my everyday life would be my high school English teacher. Kjirsten Hoveland holds such a graceful, kind, calm, and collected charisma. She is everything I aspire to be. She is intelligent, creative, and sees every person as a whole. She dedicates her time to listen and observe the world around her. What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)? I can’t exactly pick one accomplishment I am most proud of for what makes me feel the most proud and satisfied is all I have achieved and experienced at such a young age. What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you? I would say the most unique aspect about me would be my background and where I have come from. My parents both have and hold very diverse interests so I was raised in a world where everything I have strived for was encouraged. My personal interests and accomplishments make me unique for not many I know have attempted or even for such at such a young age. What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal? My career ambition would be to create a work\life balance that would allow me to pursue my business and work goals while still being able to spend time with my family, travel, learn and further my education wherever possible. What I have learned from pageantry is that you will never stop growing and learning, so I want to take all the opportunities I can and experience as much as life has to offer. What would be your “dream job” in life? My dream job would be a wonderful combination of being a makeup artist and a role model\teacher where I would be able to install confidence in those around me and be able to teach that beauty is everywhere and enhancing yourself where the beauty shines through. Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like. I was raised in a small town out of an acreage. Growing up I spent most of my time working or playing outdoors. I am very grateful for my childhood for I have had many challenges such as bullying and discrimination but I have also had nothing but love and support from my loved ones. Growing up so diverse and independent brought on a lot of issues I needed to face but they are nothing but motivators and learning experiences to me now. List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had. My most interesting job would have been lifeguarding but as for the most unusual job I would have to say when I worked at a golf course. I don’t personally enjoy golf nor know much about the sport but I had nothing but friendly encounters. List any volunteering you have done. I have volunteered for ‘4-H’, my high school Leadership Program, Alberta Health Services recreation departments and senior’s facilities, local businesses, and many local fitness organizations. What is your most unusual talent? I wouldn’t say this is a talent per say but have you ever met someone who can get lost while using a GPS? Well, that would be me! Where is the most interesting place you have been to? The most interesting place I have been to would have been when I competed in Miss Global 2019\2020 in Oaxaca Mexico. We travelled to the top of the Aztec ruin called “Temple of the Sun” in Teotihuacan, Mexico City. Standing at the top you could see all of the other ruins and temples. It was amazing. Not to mention we climbed in heels! What do you hope to be doing in ten years? In ten years I see myself becoming a pageant director which has always been a goal of mine. I also wish to be running my own makeup academy and to be able to teach on an even greater level. I would also have loved to fulfill my bucket list of travelling to every country in the world. Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked? I would like to add how grateful and honoured I am to be able to take part in this organization and place my best foot forward to experience even more personal growth. I look forward to meeting and connecting with everyone in the days to come. Thank you again!
